We hauled 1 1/2 tons of rock home yesterday (2,982 pounds to be exact). That load was right at our payload so my wife and I along with our young son put us over the payload by about 500 pounds. The truck handled it fine. The steering definitely felt a bit looser, but there was plenty of power (with the 6.4L HEMI) and the transmission in T/H Mode handled the shifting flawlessly. We went about 15 miles and never got above 45 or 50 MPH. I would obviously never travel far with that much weight on this truck, but it is definitely up to the challenge for weekend warrior jobs.

There is nothing wrong with hauling that load for extended travel time.

You should have placed the load full forward to load the front axle. Having loose steering is not good.
