Any TC-er's traveling to observe Total Eclipse 2017?

With more than 300K people just in Oregon, readying/moving to be in the path of the August 21st, 2017 Total Eclipse of the sun, I'm surprised to find no chatter on the subject on here. Is this stealth Eclipse watching? A 4WD truck camper seems to be the best go-to rig for viewing and camping on site.
Are any of you making the attempt?
There are dire warnings of clogged secondary roads; massive, dirt road traffic jams; little hamlets sold out of everything; overflowing sewage systems, sold out hotels charging 10X the usual rate, etc. by eclipse watchers, BLM and USFS people. They're also predicting tremendous exit traffic after the event. So, we'll do what we do and get over a few very gnarly jeep trails to a place to hole up, then afterward wait until the reverse flow ebbs and then make our move home staying off the major arteries.
We're set to go; Aug. 19-22 to the Central OR. high desert, right on the center line of the eclipse shadow. After a lot of dead ends trying to find detailed maps of the area I've resorted to DeLorme OR, and good old Google Earth at it's highest magnification. Since this is an overlanding opportunity, I've sniffed out a couple, 2-track, narrow, steep up and down, rocky, washed out, off camber, curvaceous jeep trails on BLM land leading to some high open ground for viewing. One or the other should (woulda coulda shoulda?) be unoccupado. These should reduce the MoHo crowd. The only problem is that we are 3 season campers. Summer is not one of the seasons. It's going to be hot, very hot. I'm planning on securing a place 2 days ahead of time to have time to execute plan B or C. Using a tiny tripod under my Nikkon Cool Pix i'll turn it on and let the vid run for 4 minutes, through the 2 minutes or so of darkness, facing east toward our XTC truck camper to chronicle the shadow in and out. The eclipse glasses are on order. The rig is ready. This is totally immensum.
Anyone else have plans? You don't have to disclose your secret viewing location.
The way i see it, this is the only chance to be under a total eclipse of the sun in my lifetime and within 6 hours of our home. The next one comes after anno 2100. Most of us won't be there.

I'm due at my cousin's in Dillon, MT the next day. The path crosses I15 S of him and N of Idaho Falls,ID. I plan to be on I15 as close to the 100% point as possible. Hope I can find a spot to pull over. :)

Coming back from Vegas to Reno. I live about 100 yards from the center of it. Hope to drive back in the the middle of the night the morning before so I can access my house. Bleh

Planning to be next to a river in Wyoming near the center of the path of totality. Of course I'll be watching the weather and be prepared to travel. What makes this all the more special is August 21 is my birthday. :)

Got talking with an older gentleman while staying a beach hotel in January. Turns out he owns 35 acres right under the center (about an hour south of us). He hadn't heard anything about it but invited our family to park the camper for the night.

I live 100 miles north of center line ,good enough for me. I will just stay home. They are saying the population in Wy will double for this event. If I do get a chance to get away from town I have a nice spot on top of the Big Horns I know will be empty.4wd and hard to get to, my kind of place.

We are off the path just a bit here in Seattle. I have to work that week.

I will take the day off to view the eclipse. I built a "Sun Funnel" for my 8 inch reflector scope...

2x don't plan on traveling the day of the eclipse, as most single lane roads can't move more than 2,000 cars per hour in one direction past a point. Travel early to your eclipse site and leave the next day afterwards or go in the direction most people aren't going. If it is cloudy west of the Cascades expect the passes and routes to eastern Oregon to be a mess.

I found a nice boondocking site in the Malhuer NF.

One thing to keep in mind is that the normally first come first served Oregon State Parks east of the mountains became reservation only and were reserved in 1.5 minutes after reservations opened.

The first come first served NF campgrounds are predicted to be full 7 days prior to the eclipse and maybe up to the 14 day stay limit prior to the eclipse.

I opted for boondocking, I investigated several sites last summer and picked up a Long creek ranger district map (renamed the Blue Mountain District) to find out what roads were gated. When I talked with the ranger he said they planned to gate a lot of additional roads that would lead to good eclipse boondocking sites because of concerns about people with inadequate skill or equipment to navigate single lane primitive roads that lead to the top of several buttes without endangering themselves or others. The Malheur NF website has an interactive map you should check or call them to see if the roads you are planning to use are going to be closed. Their website also lists several possible eclipse view sites.

For those who are unaware The 64 mile wide total eclipse path is shown below. If you are outside that path you will only see a partial eclipse. The closer to the center line, the longer the duration of totality.

Time is UTC; ALT is degrees above the horizon; AZI is bearing in degrees true. Aside from totality itself, equally impressive is the shadow racing across the sky and earth at 0.97 km/sec (0.6 mi/sec, or about 2,100 mph). Best to be up high and where you can see at least 30 miles to see it come and go.
