Thanks! Ford has just opened the Louisville Truck Factory, so we will need to wait until late July for the build. But I think this will be a good truck. - colliehaulerExplorer III

I should have been more clear, thanks for the clarification. The mechanic I use bought a used late model GM 1500 with this issue with only 70k miles. Since he had to tear it down he just put in a new crate motor. He has done several engines with this issue for contractors just replacing the cam and lifters.colliehauler wrote:
The Ford 5.4 was a problem child for sure but GM has had a lot of trouble with cams being destroyed by the variable displacement motor. The mechanic I use has replaced several motors and repaired others. Before that GM had torque converter problems that took out the transmission. No brand is immune from problems or they would not need mechanics at the service center. The Ram I had before the Ford had to have ring and pinion, transmission and ball joints replaced before 100k miles.
It is AFM/DOD that had failures and it is rare that it takes out an engine. The 3/4 ton and up trucks don't have that issue as those engines don't have AFM/DOD. It was some 5.3s and car 6.0 engines. A failure involves a CAM and lifter swap. I just did it on my Caprice, no failure, but wanted a larger CAM.
The point was no company is problem free no matter how much brand loyalty you have. - CresproExplorerJust ordered this week.

The FORD 7.3 Gas is Fords knock off of the GM LS engine line. It certainly has proven an effective design, why fight with an overhead cam, especially for HD use.
Exactly right. It’s pretty tough to argue the durability of the LS engines. It is one of the main reasons I bought a Yukon 5.3L instead of a Ford with the 5.4L. - Grit_dogNavigator

I have an appointment at the Ford Dealership to check out my 2003 Ford F250 V10 with 124K one owner miles. It has been a great truck. Just have to find out
why it dies for no reason. Supposedly they have a Tech with 34 yrs experience. For $60 hopefully he can tell me what's wrong. If I cannot get my V10 repaired I will buy the 2020 XLT with the 6.2L for $40K out the door. Nearly everyone I talk to think my problem is the fuel pump which will cost $800 plus
Is this your real reason, or just what you’re telling the wife so you can get a new truck? Lol
