Anyone towing a CR-V behind a truck camper?

Yes it's a double post, but there are specific issues about towing and towing with a TC.

My truck camper is 10' so I was using an 18" extension to tow my boat. I'll load the camper next week to get some measurements and start to develop a plan. While traveling last summer I looked at the Truck campers and Class C campers to see how many were pulling a toad as that's close to the size of my rig. Not many but a few. Although the Class C towing capacity can limited somewhat. My CRV is about 11% percent of my capacity so it should be fine. My camper is about 60% of capacity so that seems reasonable as well. Thanks all, the information gathering will continue.

I believe CRV now uses a CVT transmission and can't be towed 4 down. For anyone looking to buy a toad make sure it can be towed 4 down before you buy it. The list grows shorter every year.I believe OP stated in his original post that his was older.

I saw a youtube video not to long ago where a vlogger bought himself a used 2 wheel drive automatic Wrangler (didn't even know they made them) and went to the trouble of having the baseplate mounted before he realized that he could't tow without removing the drive shaft. :S

Here is a good resource for available towed vehicles.

We did it with an 06 for a few years when needed. It towed fine and the truck didn't really care.

Towing a CR-V behind a truck camper will be similar to towing behind a motor home. You need to have sufficient distance between the two to allow for sharp turns that will not allow the corners to touch.

What is different is the amount of camper overhang you have off the rear of the truck. Up to about 2' you can use an inexpensive extension off an OEM receiver. Once you get to longer lengths, you are putting considerable side forces on the receiver through that lever. You may be able to add side chains to triangulate the extension to a Class V receiver or at this point start considering whether you would be more comfortable with a double receiver and truss setup like what is sold by Torklift.

Although there may not be brake requirements for 4-down towing in your state, I feel you should seriously consider this for any vehicle over 3000 lbs. Your truck is already loaded with the truck camper, so your truck brakes could use the assistance of the towd when attached.
