Aristocrat Land Commander

This is the rig my SIL recently purchased for a restoration project:



According to the title, it's a 1972 Aristocrat Land Commander. She and I have done a LOT of searching on the web for photos of this make/model but none of them looked like this in '72, from the photos were able to locate. I have noticed, however, that this same model style is often seen listed as a mid-to-late 1960's model. Is it possible that the title (which has only changed hands twice since it was built) is incorrect?

And, does anyone know if the original owner's manual is available for purchase and/or download somewhere?

Those were great trailers as well as most made back then like Kenskill/Kit/Shasta/Security and a few others. I owned one for a short time... I still have two 1970's trailers in my driveway, a Kit and a Security. Tough well built trailers more so than some of these new ones.

We thought it had a propane light too, but upon inspecting it, my SIL says it's electric, which is just fine with her (it's her rig). Ice box: check. Hand-pump faucet: check. No heater: check! She's lucky in that the light shades are all original and not cracked or anything---they are so retro looking!

We used to rent various Aristocrats when I was a kid, Low Liners usually, and then my dad bought a Land Commander very similar to yours which we had for years. I loved camping in that trailer, and I am happy to see some of them still around!

There seems to be a lot of these Aristocrat trailers still being used.
There is a Vintage Aristocrat Facebook page. They evidently have Regional Rallys in some areas. Contacting an owner that is connected with these groups will probably net the best information.

It's possible that the year changed on the title but the owner's manual won't get you very informed for what you need in regard to restoring the trailer. I received the original owner's manual for my '71 from Starcraft, along with the sales brochure. Aside from the actual weights from the factory and tire sizes, there isn't a lot of info in there. If you're looking for schematic diagrams or a parts list, forget about it.

It does remind more of mid to late 60's styling, but early 70's would not be too far off either IMO.. Probably has an actual Ice Box and a hand pump sink too. Probably no actual heater as such.. Bet it has a propane lit lamp in it too! 🙂

I doubt there was an owners manual even when it was new.. My 1971 Ford LTD's owners manual was about 50 pages.. My 2013 F150 has over 500 pages in it's manual! That thing doesn't have anything in it that would need instructions on how to use! 😉

Nice find for your SIL and it should make for a nice project.

Neat looking unit. I like to see older RV's maintained and restored.
