That's an interesting take on my post. You did read where the surge got past the surge guard, doing nothing it's supposed to do and let the surge hit our appliances.

IT was also not weather sealed very well and broke it's mounts with just normal use.

No response from the company on how to send it back for testing. That's why I decided to open it up.

They give you a 1 year warranty because they don't have confidence in their own product. Versus others who give a life time warranty.

Last year I had the opportunity to buy a used TRC Voltage Regulator #10176 at a significantly reduced price ... great, until it arrived and I plugged it in only to discover as soon as I opened it up that it was fried. :M The transformer itself was fine but the main circuit board was badly melted so I contacted TRC asking for a price on a replacement. Guess what - no replacement, they wouldn't sell me one, saying my only recourse was to buy a new one. Yeah, right - ain't gonna happen, so I contacted the seller who graciously refunded my purchase price and apologized for the grief I went through. I also owned a TRC #34730 Surge Guard that worked fine but never again would I ever purchase any other TRC product knowing the company refuses to offer replacement parts for their products past the 1 yr warranty period.

TRC is made in Honduras. Pretty much disposable when something goes wrong.
I read their warranty. It excludes any and all events that may occur except maybe a surge or spike which may end it's usefulness.
TRC Warranty:
The Warranty does not protect against acts of God, such as direct
lightning strikes, flood, earthquake and war. It also does not protect
against vandalism, theft, normal use wear and tear, erosion, depletion, obsolescence, abuse, or damage due to low voltage disturbances for products without under voltage protection (i.e. brownouts, sags, or power outages), non authorized program or system equipment modification or alteration.

Seems crazy they will not offer to make minor repairs to their units. After the burnt plug I made a short 5 foot cord to plug in first. The short cord is also nice for pedestals where the SG touches the ground if plugged directly in. When this one finally goes I will buy the portable Progressive unit (and mount it inside) since they have much better CS reviews.

That would be 48 contiguous states, but I understand your meaning. There is the broad Pacific ocean between the contiguous states and Hawaii, and a place called Canada ๐Ÿ™‚ between the lower 48 and Alaska.

I don't see why it's not legit as the warranty info does say lifetime, just as it should for all Progressive Industries EMS units. That said, $245 US is $310 Cdn and shipping as far as I can tell is only free within the 50 contiguous states ... I'd be awfully cautious about not only additional freight charges to get it from the border to you but also import and brokerage charges which can be substantial. This is one of several reasons I bought a Progressive hard wire model instead of the portable version as the hard wire is field serviceable, meaning if I ever need to repair it Progressive will simply mail me the parts via USPS and I won't have to deal with any additional charges. Not an issue for those in the US but for those of us here in Canada it is, IMO.

Hey Sound Guy. My dad lives in the states in a boarder town.
I get it shipped to him, then he gets it to me.

Does that make a difference! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Are there different warranties when ordered from Amazon?

Not as far as I know ... got a link?

I found a progressive industries unit (pt30c) that is sold by Amazon for $245.00 (seems like a great deal). But the description says one year warranty.

Again - got a link? $245 in US$ would be a great price, in Cdn$ an impossibility. If you're so intent on price shopping your best bet would be to wait until Progressive next offers sale pricing and have one shipped to a friend in the US where you can pick it up later. This may take awhile though as the EMS-PT30C is currently on backorder - seems demand is outstripping supply. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Purchasing from PI, it is lifetime.
Their XXP-30XL model is $117 and also has a lifetime warranty. It doesn't have all the features of the EMS.

I'm curious as to why you would say that???

They are not that important on 30AMP service, however on 50AMP service if you loose neutral you fry all your AC appliances within seconds with 240V across them. Friend motorhome had over 10K of damage for missing neutral leg.

Chris
???
The only way to get 240V to any devices is if one of the Hot legs is reversed with the Neutral on a 50A service. Simply losing the neutral will just prevent anything from working as there is no return leg for both buses.
