Best way to repair hole in Cab over

Coming back from my last trip from Florida to Dallas I heard a loud banging noise and assumed it was stone or rock since i came up on some construction trucks on the highway. Little later saw this on my driver side cab over near trim under hang. Was just going to caulk it or maybe little piece of Eternabond.
  • Pjay9,

I hear ya!! I bought this camper for 3,000 bucks last Feb.2014. Way under low retail. Used this camper for 6 months of last year and no problems. Everything works on this camper. Have not done anything but keep seals up and put in a new water heater anode. I will be ready to upgrade end of June.just wanted to patch it up before my next 2 week trip.
  • BR50...If trading in why bother with patch...maybe move up your schedule to a month...or are you selling it out right? Good Luck. At 17 years does it really owe you anything? My first TC was $800...my learning time...parted it out when fell apart made my money back...
BTW, looks like your TC is wider than your wheel wells!:D
  • Well i did a complete seal job last April with with Dicor lap sealant in the horizontal roof seams then did every seal, vents, window, cab over lights, cab over window with pro flex brush able seal. You name I sealed it!! Previous owner neglected the sealing process for the 8 years he owned it. Those trim screws were a bit rusty last February when I bought it. Maybe I should replace them with some stainless steel screws? Honestly I am only going to keep it maybe 2 more months then upgrade. Just checked all seals and looked good. No new leaks and this camper has been through some monsoon rain this last couple of months. TC is 17 years old..
  • Eternabond for temporary fix, looks like water intrusion, how is the sealing around the cab over lights etc.
Those rusty screws dont look good, back some of them out and look at the threads....
I would try to roll that sheet back and have a look under and above there..

Its good these things don't have to float or they would all sink pretty quickly...leaks seem to be the name of the game, I am at ours constantly. We take a caulking gun, Eternabond and Dicor at all times on a trip... Most Rv's are quite a piece of work...
  • I don't know..
I had an older TT that had that in one spot on the side of it. Never spread or showed up anyplace else.
  • I agree that is probably all over your TC. To patch the immediate problem, I'd use Eternabond.
  • I think you are only looking at the tip of the iceberg. That is corrosion.

If it was my TC, I would find a piece of matching aluminum siding, and cut a patch about 4"x12". Loosen 2 or 3 of the screws on the existing siding, and slip the patch under. I would caulk the patch before install, and use blind rivets around the edges of the patch.
