Biggest Truck Camper ever!!! 4 me

This rig pulled into the Midway Campground in the Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida.
Talked briefly with the owner. Home built, 15 years old. It's on a flatbed. When not in use, he takes if off.

  • Definitely a cool looking TC but unless the owner uses that tractor for another reason like a paying job. That would be IMHO one unnecessary overkill costly truck/RV combo.

If that tractor is not paying it's way he would have been better off buying a Haulmark or Renegade!

It is all in ones choices. I have a 2003 International 9400i Detroit Diesel parked west of Denver. I gave it thought to use it, instead of my F550. The fact is that my Semi Truck makes better mileage than my F550, was cheaper to maintain, better brakes, carries more than I could ever want to carry, will last my lifetime, built to last, goes 10X farther in distance and best part is, it is paid for!

But here is the rub. Where I go and boondock, my F550 is the right choice. Can you imagine me pulling into a neighborhood to camp for the night in St. George Utah or Seattle, Washington to stealth camp in my Semi Truck Camper? Or go down a back county road and camp for the night, at a cattle load pull out, in Nebraska/Kansas, to be met by a farmer, the next morning? (Actually that pertains to an expensive motorhome, more than an old Semi Truck) Nor could I. If I was to ply the interstate highways and put thousands of miles on a year, seeing this country, then a semi truck would be a good choice.

For me, I'll keep my truck. But to say something that is paid for, better fuel mileage and carry more weight is costly overkill, is well, being unaware of all possibilities or a users' needs. But, for your use and possibilities, overkill is probably correct.

  • I saw this truck in the Everglades last Saturday awesome setup. The owner said he has a set of stands that bolt to the gray brackets on the camper then lowers the air bags on truck than drives away. Very cool rig with a 500HP Cummins should have enough torque. Wonder what the door sticker says LOL.
  • My Isuzu is now feeling a bit inadequate :p

    Awesome truck and camper!
  • I have seen a lot of those big semi tractors in CG's pulling FW's though. There is even a small version of this type of semi tractor that is becoming real popular with the FW crowd. And BTW if I could own one I definitely would!

This was parked next to me last year and it
would have made me a very happy camper to own just this
regular truck spiked hubs and all! :B

  • Would love to see pics of the inside. From the looks of the handiwork on the outside, the inside must be a dreamers paradise.

Too big for my taste and travel style, but one of the sweetest rigs I've seen.

Have even seen those in Australia pulling a FW, others use heavier Japanese Trucks mainly
Or as one article said, these are more Trucks than Pickups
The F650 and F750 are really trucks in their own right, but Ford insists on including them in the F-Series family, along with the Ranger-sized F150, the F250, F350 and Super Duty pick-ups. Most are used for hard work, but several are purchased by customers who simply want to be seen driving a massive pick-up truck
  • Looks like a plow frame on the front of that rig - maybe it carries a sander in the off season??? ST
