Black jack Ultra roof 1000?

Anyone used this on their truck camper?

Looking to redo my roof with... something... Primary stuff in my area is henry's and black jack brands. This stuff looks good, and some favorable reviews on the net in the camper\rv realm, but it's siliconized, and i'm curious if that would ever have any issues if I ever sprung a leak and needed to use some eternabond to seal it up since that product says don't use it over Silicone?

Thoughts?

  • This stuff says it is meant for all types of roofs, and has RV's listed on their front page, i'm just not sure if I ever needed\wanted to use eternabond if there's enough silicone in it to make the eternabond not stick to it.

My camper is an older aluminum skinned Pastime that has leaked on more than one occasion over it's lifespan and I rebuilt the entire roof as well due to that. Just thought i'd throw something on to get by for a few more years and fill in any pinholes that might be around in the roof.

Seems like more of us TC people have the really old rigs, lol.

  • I used to use an elastomeric coating on my old campers/trailers when they were aluminum roofs. I put it on the "raw" aluminum and over seams, flanges, etc., and it worked really well for many years (I never used silicone.) It also did help keep the rig cooler and quieter when it rained. That was 20 years ago though, and with today's new roof materials I think I'd most likely stick with what was recommended for your roof material specifically. I do remember that when I had to replace a roof vent I had to cut around the flange to get it off and replace it, then I had to clean the whole area around it when I reinstalled and re-coat. It doesn't come off easily!

    Just my experiences.

  • I would go with a product that is compatible with other most easily used, readily available solutions. That would of course be in consideration of future repairs/ situations.

The name 'Black Jack', I'm not too sure about. They make products for roofing contractors that are the old school types of things. I know their 'Black Jack' roof caulking does not las as long as some newer products.
