Broken sofa straps

I put my knee and my weight on my sofa to repair a blind. I heard a loud pop. Upon inspecting underneath i broke some plastic straps that must act as springs. These are similar to plastic packaging straps, pretty crapy for a sofa i must say. I am not sure how to fix these. Any ideas? I was thinkin some vinyl straps but i am not sure how i would attach them together.

Thanks
Todd
  • I think every trailer has that same banding support. I didn't like it in mind, so ORV replaced the banding with plywood bases for each section. MUCH better. No more sagging. It's a little firmer but that's much better than the excessive sag it had before.
  • So this is what i ended up doing

I cant believe they would use these cheap straps for a sofa

It feels a bit firmer with the new straps. I will see how they holdup
  • Good idea on ratchet straps. On an old TT that had a jackknife sofa I had a local upholstery shop replace the foam with a more dense foam anfpd also add some web strapping. Made a world of difference and a comfortable sofa.
  • I was also thinking about ratchet straps! I believe there is 8 or 9 of these straps so that may get expensive. They probably would only need to be 3' long. I found some cam straps that may work but im not sure if they would need constant tightening. I guess a trip to lowes is in store so i can get some ideas.
  • I think many RVs have the same set up. I wonder if you could replace the straps with ratchet straps so you could tighten it up to the correct tension.
