Canvas repair question

My family and I went camping this weekend. When we opened the bed ends, we discovered that mice had invaded, troops of them. One bed end's canvas has holes of assorted sizes in it.

I don't want to replace the whole canvas. What's a good way to patch it? Your suggestions will be most welcome.

I have no idea how the mice got in, but they dirtied the entire inside of the cupboards, refrigerator, beds, everything. We cleaned and bleached everything and threw out all of our paper products. There was no food stored in the camper. Any suggestions about how to repel rodents? I have never had this happen before. I will add that the camper was parked in the grass while my driveway was sealed. It's usually parked on the pavement.

Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.
  • I has the same thing happen to me a about 5 yrs ago. I ordered white duct tape online from Graingers. As mentioned, I have had to replace it once because of drying out and yes it does make a sticky mess. I just cut the same size patch (on both sides) to go over the old patch area which worked out well. I keep the roll of duct tape in the camper. overall the patch holds out well.

I would bet a cup of coffee the mice are coming in from under the floor deck, either from an uncalked utility entrance or an unfinished opening of the floor. I had both, caulked everything and mice never returned.

  • Thank you very much. Yes, I did Google it and found an answer. I ordered a boat cover repair kit.

    I appreciate your response.
  • Seeing no other responses how about Sail Repair Tape on both sides of the hole/gap? Gorilla tape might work. Do NOT use duct tape. It won't hold up and it will leave a sticky mess.
