Coleman Pioneer 95 top goes up fine but slowly rides down

Problem: Top cranks up fine with the clicking as I turn the crank. It will slowly ride down once up. Cut custom access door around the crank assembly so now I can inspect. Paw seems to be operating well click with the turns, can not tell if it is worn or spring is weakened. Order new Paw parts and will probably put those in, cheapest solution if it works.

Problem solving: Already tried over cranking, just cranks up to the max then will slowly come down 18 inches or more.

Any other ideas??? Thanks
  • Replace as much as you want (or can afford to). Yes I am a hillbilly, maybe a redneck too. If it was my PUP, AND, the systems cranks up & down correctly (I did say IF IF IF the systems works correctly). I would just buy a few 2X2s and cut them "exactly" the distance from the top of the main frame-to the bottom of the roof (when raised), and place one at each corner when the roof is raised. I cant believe your Coleman doesnt have that already. My old Palamino came with aluminum struts that fit over the legs and under the canvas flaps.

Anyway. Good luck with whatever you choose. Just remember. If a cable breaks, the roof will lower either partway or completely. Cut some wood struts. Its a safety issue
  • "Chevy" is correct you can spend alot of money trying to find a fix for a pup, boy do i miss the pup 2x4S will fix the problem while camping in 2 min to 5 min GOODLUCK let us know how it go's
  • I had an 85 coleman years ago that the top would work back down as you moved around inside I did the same thing just cut two 2x4 to hold it mine had the flaps that covered the poles so you couldn't even see them I showed the new owner how to set them in when I sold it
  • I trust my lift sytem so little, I cut 1x2s, 46" long to fit next to the lift posts. first things that go in after we pop up, one at the back on the door side, one at the front on the other side, and I bungee them to the lift posts, just in case. yours will prolly need to be a different length, Hope this helps! -Dave
  • My 1980 Palomino TXL came with the end struts they just slip over the corner bars on 1 rear corner and the opposite front corner.
I think every pup that I have owned except for the old Sears one wheel pup had some sort of safety unit to keep the top from coming down..
