convertor/charging questions

I have a 2000 Lance 1010 that I bought last fall, I am setting it up to get ready for the season, the convertor won't charge the Battery I checked everything that the manuals suggested and it appears the convertor isn't working right.

It also seems that it isn't charging from the truck, when the truck is running does it also go thru the convertor?

I have it plugged into a 20 amp. circuit does it have to have a 30 amp.?

What is everyone using as a replacement/upgrade ?

The Battery is brand new THANKS IN ADVANCE
  • With 120V AC power to converter (via a circuit breaker or plugged into an outlet) the converter DC Output should be 13.2V DC Minimum.......otherwise converter is/has failed.

Truck Alt will supply a 'charge' to camper battery via the charge line/pin in a 6 pin or 7 pin connector provided the fuses/relay in truck fuse panel are in place and line connected and truck is running.

6 pin or 7 pin charge goes to camper battery NOT thru converter.

If you have a battery disconnect switch it has to be in proper position so that camper battery can be used/charged whether from truck or from converter.

Plugged into a 20A outlet is OK

    Converter Replacement----ASK Randy
  • I never gave it time with the truck running to give a good charge, so I'm pretty sure that isn't a problem

Everything is good right up to the convertor one time I checked it had no power at the charge output lug the second time I checked it had power (both with the battery turned off )
  • Keep in mind the Charge line from the Truck's Alternator is pretty small gauge wire likely 12 gauge or if you are lucky 10 gauge. You will get a pretty slow charge rate from the Truck likely around 6-10 amps or so. The Converter Charger in the camper is likely a 35 to 45 amp charger and as previously mentioned you should see at the very least 13.2 volts at the batteries preferably more if not the Converter Charger is bad or has a blown fuse. Hopefully you do have 2 deep cycle batteries!?!?! If not look at upgrading the battery bank. Remember Randy at: http://www.bestconverter.com/ BoonDocker Converter Charger are great.
