Cool seal

I took delivery of a new K-Z Sportsmen 14RB yesterday. My question is weather or not I should put white cool seal on the roof to help it stay cooler in the summer. Thanks

It has what KZ calls: "•Alum-A-Tough Roofing with 12 Year
    Limited Warranty" --from their brochure.

I am assuming it is aluminum as you mentioned, but there still may warranty issues.

  • I use that and snow roof on all my aluminum rooves, RV and mobile home. I would not use it on my rubber roof.

Snow Roof works excellent on aluminum RV rooves. I even used it on my Lance pickup camper. It does a great job in cooling in the summer and keeping it sealed.
  • I agree with the others. Your roof is already white.

However, if you really want to do a roof coating, you need to be carefull of which product you use. Some of those coating materials, can actually damage your roof. Others may just peel off. Petroleum distilates don't play nice with rubber roofing.

Do a forum search for "roof coating". There are other threads about doing this. Some point out good products, and some point out some not so good.

There would be not advantage to doing that and would probably void the warranty on your rubber roof.
  • I dont think it would help. On line photos show a white roof already. I think the cool seal could damage the existing roof material.
  • I would not. If the unit is new, most likely there is a multi year warranty on the roof that will probably be be void if you put Kool Seal on it.
