Just bought a 06 Ford with 6.0 SD. I live in the flordia Keys and there are no diesel services down here. The nearest city is Homestead which is still small, or Miami big city. Any help with how i go about finding a good mechanic who knows diesels? I need to find out what updates have been done to my motor, like head bolts. Anyone know shop in the Miami area? Thanks, Lee

I think you are referring to Bill at Powerstrokehelp

to OP, 1st get a scan gauge and then watch the deltas on the water and oil temps. Several sites such as FTE and the powerstroke.org will have much information for you. Powerstroke I think has better stickies to read. But until you can actually monitor the engine well it will be hard to see what may be needed. I have an 04 6.0, and we just got back from atrip to northern Az with it with no issues. As a matter of fact I have had more issues with the V10 then we ever did with the 6.0!

Dont know anything about your location but there are some references to places in miami I think, look up diesel power magazine also diesel world they have featured several trucks from down in that area.

I am one for finding a good independent diesel shop that specializes in powerstrokes to minimize headaches and wallet drain.

I've owned a few 6.0L's and with proper maintenance/parts and some modifications they aren't as bad as some will lead you to believe.

OP thought he got a great deal on his newly acquired 2006 Ford....unfortunately he was NOT aware of the 6.0 PS issues.....first diesel.

OP is probably a bit frustrated NOW and asking for help.....unaware that some valuable info can be gathered at a FORD Dealership....INFO.

But any independent diesel mechanic can 'look' it over BUT w/o tearing into engine a little bit no way knowing IF head bolts replaced.

As for the other issues with 6.0 .....should be able to tell if coolers/egr etc have been replaced

Being the 'KEYS'---lots of diesel mechanics/shops.....marine and truck
so start calling

Your kidding right? It takes longer to pop the pop, walk to the front of the truck and lift the hood than to tell if the head bolts were replaced. It does not require to remove anything.

Also the 05-07 6.0PSD will tell you by a CEL if the oil cooler is getting clogged. Doesn't require any effort.

Then OP is 'home free'
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Thanks for the info. I was in the car business for over 40 years at the dealership level and I am aware of what the dealers will tell you and NOT tell you about issues with their product. I called Ford dealer in Homestead and made an appointment for complete service and check for needed service updates. Im aware that car manufactures can put out vehicles without proper field testing and the owners of these vehicles are the ones who suffer.

Start by looking at the top of a head stud...if it has ARP in it the engine has been worked on by someone who knew what he was doing. Is there a water filter mounted behind the radiator on the passenger side? Another indication someone knew what they were doing.

I would watch videos by this guy. I recently bought a 07 6.0 he had bulletproofed.

Take it back! I would literally rather have several diseases than own a 6.0. I say that because I have worked on many of them.
Google, "diesel mechanic shop near me."
Or go on fte forums and ask in the 6.0 section. Most areas have at least one shop dedicated to fixing Ford's screw up.

Do you think the Ford dealer is the place to go to fix Fords screw ups on this motor?? Will they disable the EGR system ect.??? I think not. I think i need a guy that knows the correct mods.

I think you are rude. You wanted to know what updates had been done on the motor, your exact words. If anything had been done pursuant to recalls, they would have the records. Even perhaps, they could offer you a referral to an independent garage who also could help you. With your attitude, you will need all the help you can get. Good luck!
