Disconnect battery when not using?

I put a battery switch on mine. Found one with a key to lock it on or off for $19 on Amazon.No more dead battery.

x2 thats the thing to do. those cut off switchs in the rv don,t kill everything .right at the battery put a cut off .

Yes disconnect. Some RV's have a master battery turn off. When not in use the battery still drains on your CO monitor and anything else that may use it that is live.

And turn the battery off as soon as you are not using, towing or connected to power. If you bought one of those "red key" switches, know that I had two fail in one season. Get a good one like the Blue Sea brand.

Yes, as said above you need to disconnect the batteries when you leave the trailer in storage. If not the phantom loads like the refrigerator and propane detector will drain the battery in about a week. Once a battery drains it starts to take damage. The longer it sits drained the more damage it takes.

So yes definitely replace with some new batteries and then disconnect them every time when you store it.

If I read it right, one of the posters said to disconnect the battery when connected to shore power. I've always been under the impression that the battery needed to be connected in order for the converter to keep it charged. In fact, that's what the dealer told me 15 years ago. Is there a different way of thinking now?

Install a solar system to charge, and keep your battery, charged. Cheaper than repeated battery replacement.

Not a good idea disconnecting until you get home. You need the battery connected for the break away switch while towing.
