discount from MSRP?

I've seen statements that most RVs actually sell for 25-30 percent off MSRP. Is that generally correct?

If I'm looking at say a Jayco with MSRP of $28K, is it reasonable to offer $21K, which is 75 percent of the asking price?

What if you special order a unit, with specific options? Does that reduce negotiating power?

Just to clarify---I'm talking about a new unit.
  • first MSRP can vary depending on number the dealer wants to use. but yes offer 75% and see what happens. and special ordering should not penalize you unless the dealer has some oldies he wants to get off the lot. he's paying for them so it is better for him to unload them.

  • Yes, it is. Mine was listed at 28k. Got it for 17900. I believe it's typical.
  • I paid $18.5k with 28.5k MSRP for mine which was a custom order.
  • Would there be any advantage to doing a special order in the late summer, fall or winter, when many people are waiting to the next year to buy?
  • No way to tell unless you get quotes from different dealers at different times of the year. Pricing depends on many factors.
  • Strangely it seems the new ones on lots are often discount education more, maybe below the on hand used inventory.
