Does length for sites include tow vehicle?

When asked my TT length I say 25 feet.

Well the other day I measured it and (Oh No !!!) from bumper to hitch ball it was 26 feet 4 inches. I still say 25 feet.

From TT bumper to the front of my TV is 50 feet. Up in the Michigan UP a couple of times I had to unhitch and park sideways to the TT, because the sight would not accommodate the hitched length.

It is simply a matter of you do what needs to be done. That does include asking first if you can.

If Max length was Tow vehicle and Trailer, in your example your trailer could only be 5' in length.

When I state my trailer length, I use the length from the front of the tongue to the very back of my spare tire. In my case it's 35'. If I used just the trailer length, it would be 29'. I don't want to be squeezed into a 30' campsite and have no room to work with so I always use the 35' length as the length of my trailer.

Unless they have free ones too it won’t be too helpful. Freecampsites.net has user photos some. That’s my main go to. I use satellite and street view when possible.

Here in Wa. and at National parks it is the total length you have available.

All mentioned is correct which means anything is possible. Reserve America sometimes has totally driveway length listed. I find it’s best to find pics online of the site, google earth helps also if not to wooded and campsite photos has a lot of pictures of campsites.

sometimes the length restriction isn't related to pad length but to how long a trailer or RV can be and still make it around the park and/or into a spot.


I've been places with 70ft pads that it's very hard to get even a 30ft trailer or 30ft rv into. either very narrow lanes or sometimes narrow lanes and tight turns.

Usually it's the length of the TT. However you need to carefully read what they are asking for. Sometimes it can be both.

In Indiana State Parks we find the length given is the depth of the paved or gravel area to park on.

Check my profile for a pic. I was full timing in the camper shell on the truck. I had a cargo box on the back for my generator and other gear. Now I have the long trailer. It definitely changes some places I can go. Although, I did often stay at Walmarts, truck stops, rest areas, etc. I almost never pay for camping because why? It's not needed unless you need gobs of electric and water.

I might even cancel my gym membership I only use for showers because a lot of them have parking lots that I almost couldn't fit even the truck+cargo box into.

It'll have to wait until I get a proper water heater though. A previous owner put a 2.5g electric only one. That isn't much of a shower. Bare minimum is about 5 gallons, based on using a one of those solar camp shower bags this past summer in a shower tent.
