Dolly towing 2017 Cadillac AWD XT5 with Motorhome

Hello everyone new to this forum, I have a 2017 Cadillac XT5 with the auto on/off AWD mode I have purchased a motorhome and would like to tow the XT5. I have read where it can't be towed 4 tires on the road, but if AWD is switched off it can be towed using front tires on tow dolly. I don't want to deal with large trailer to tow it all four on trailer.

Has anyone else dolly towed a 2017 XT5 AWD and are there any hazards or tips?

Thanks,
Robert

The Terrain and Equinox AWD can be towed 4 down providing you get the models with the 6 speed automatic transmission. If you have the models with the 9 speed automatic then they canโ€™t be towed 4 down. My 2015 Ford F-150 AWD could be towed 4 down.

My luck it would switch off the front wheels. Owners Manual is going to be your best source of info.

Normally all wheel drive vehicles can't be "switched off" and become 2 wheel drive. Better check that owners manual very carefully and even call Cadillac to verify. AWD normally means 4 on the trailer for any type of towing.

Itโ€™s the 8 speed transmission that prevents the XT5 from being towed 4 down.

Other things to consider if you haven't already done so -
1. Have you considered how you would back up your rig with the car on a dolly.? It might behave a lot better on a trailer.
2. Sounds like you have a pretty nice car. Are you aware that a car can get pretty beat up back there with stones and other road debris. Will your car and/or dolly and/or MH have protection against this?
3. In the final analysis, would you consider an enclosed trailer?

Just things to consider. Happy motoring.

Did you read this in the Owners Manual of your Cadillac?
