We traded up Jayco 34 ft two slides king bed, awesome layout front kitchen, downsized and went to 28ft Coachmen Freedom Express, queen front bed, anyone ever tried to add a king mattress and widen the board area so it goes wall to wall? I know its a odd question but we camp seasonal with 4 small dogs, and I am going to try to do this. I will be giving up closet space, but that better than giving up sleep. Ideas?

There are some good ideas here, thanks, love our pups, and they just dont get the hint there is no room, having a king bed in the Jayco spoiled us and also at home, plan to widen it some how for sure!!!

Our bed is sideways and we replaced the RV queen with a regular sized one. I could have added to the deck for a king sized but getting the queen into the trailer was hard enough, I don't think I could get the king through the door.

In pretty much every TT I've had, the front, pass-thro storage area uses the bed frame and side-night stands as part of its structure. This would have to be modified.

Our first camper had a 50 by 72 bed in it. I removed one cupboard, and installed it in the spare space on the other side, and then bought a 70 by 82 inch foam mattress with a cover that is cut to fit the size. We used a queen sized fitted sheet on it and it fit quite nicely stretching over the corners.

The other option might be to have a section that you can keep your same mattress, but slip out a piece of plywood with supports, and the extra width is a cut foam section. For show, it just sits at the head of the bed under the duvet.. for sleeping the plywood slips out from underneath the mattress, and the foam lays alongside. The bottom fitted sheet would just slip over the extra section.

I would worry less about the width, and more about the length. I'm pretty big / fat, and a Queen is plenty wide. But there are times my feet hang over the end

The only observation I would make is to be sure not to remove important structural members that your closet provides to the roof. The King bed sounds great!
