Early sound systems in vehicles

That's just too fancy! I was happy to have a reverberator(sp) hooked to the radio, playing on a rear deck speaker. :)

Associated with factory radios I remember growing up in the 70's with the integrated radio/CB/mic that cam with many cars as an option. Lots of fun playing with them as a kid. My brother had a CB in his room with a roof antenna and we (brothers) would talk with my dad when he was in his car. He would radio us if he was in range.

AM radio that sort of picked up a couple channels. Mostly at night.

Probably aging myself...but...My dad bought an Oldmobile in the mid 80's that came with a Cassette player. Included in the car was a tape called 'Oldsmobile' and had songs from Willie Nelson and Michael Jackson and several others.... We wore that tape out traveling. Lol

My uncle had an 8 track player installed in his 80's car since he had buckets and buckets of them...thought that was strange. Lol

Started with AM radio with a reverberator and three speakers, one up front and two in the rear. Then 8 track, to cassettes to FM radio with a cassette player. Made a lot of money while in school installing radios and tape decks in cars.

8-track: Absolutely the worst idea ever for a recording medium. But, like most others in the 70s I had one in my car; even bought a recorder. Thank heaven for cassette tapes!

There was a short time that a 4-track was available. A friend had one in his cool 53 Chev. The 8-track was a definite step up from that! Oh ya, the cassette was the real deal, look at how many years it stayed in demand!!

I never owned one but you could buy a Caddy with a record player too.

Yep I had a 8 track in my 69 Torino GT. Always had to fold up a small piece of paper and jam it along the right side of the tapes to keep them playing.

Thought when looking at our 2001 Ram in 2011 that it had a cassette tape player (Alpine), until it was pointed out that there was a 10 CD shuffle under the drivers seat. :B
