Ease of removing Superhitch and extensions?

FireGuard

One of the advantages of a TC is the ability to be mobile and not have to tow a trailer or second vehicle.
When staying in 1 place for any length of time you have the ability to drop the camper and have the truck to get around.
When I had my Reese Titan and 4' extension, it was as simple as pulling the hitch pin and unplugging the elec plug and removing the extension.
With the Superhitch it seems much more involved with the 2 extensions and support chains.
How long does it take those with this hitch to drop everything so you can use the truck without the TC?
Can you slide both extensions out together or do they have to be "disassembled" and removed individually?
Thanks

I can usually install or remove our 32" SuperTruss in about 10 minutes. Sometimes a little longer if I'm in no hurry. Sometimes my wife will help me line it up or remove it and sometimes i do it alone. Lining up the pins can be a little troublesome once in a while. I always try to install or remove it before loading the truck camper. Often in a campground someone stops by when I'm removing or installing it to asked questions or comment on it which slows me down. I always remove it at the campground if I remove the camper. As far as age being a factor I will be 70 this year and my wife is 63.

I have a 42" (cut down from 48"). The only time it's a problem for me is when I forget to put it on before putting the camper on.:S

Crawling up under the tail of the camper and lifting that rascal up to the receiver is a chore.:)

But, it can be done.

I was assuming nothing was still connected to the hitch and the camper is off the truck. 🙂

Remove two shackles at Superhitch end, pull two pins, disconnect electrical plug and remove truss.

It usually takes me longer to find the right key for the locking hitch pin than anything else. 🙂

🙂 I don't know about the young guy part. I'll be the big seven O this year.

Agree installing or removing the Supertruss with the camper on is a real bear and is a lot harder than if the camper is not on. Generally a little planning can avoid needing to remove/install with the camper on.

Mine is heavy and very awkward but I put it in/out by myself. It is a 4' extension with a MC carrier welded on the end. One end of the carrier is heavier and causes the extension to "twist" to the left while not supported making it impossible for one guy to do. Used to have to wait for the neighbor to get home to help me.

Now with the help of a little red wagon from Harbor Freight I can do it myself. I leave the extension leaning up against a fence all the time. Then I lower it down on the wagon and roll it over to the truck. It is just the right height so I get behind the ext., rotate it so both tubes line up with the hitch and shove it in.

agree with the comments above, sounds like it's not assembled correctly.

You need to get if fixed ASAP especially if you plan to use it for towing, the entire point of the thing is to get extra strength from the truss arrangement.

I leave mine in all camping season, since I never take the camper off the truck.

I lift mine from the lower tube, which eliminates the chance of pinched fingers.

I use a locking hitch pin at the truck receiver, to prevent theft.

Guess I maybe a klutz but when sliding out the truss the tubes collapse on one another. Fingers beware because it hurts!

Sounds like its not assembled correctly. Mine has plates on both sides in two places that bolt the two tubes together. No way they will collapse.
