Easy food ideas

Hmmm. One man's easy meal is another man's pain-in-the-pan. But, we like gumbo. I get either Zatarain's mix, or another brand, that has the rice and seasoning. I add shrimp, kielbasa, can of okra, and if you need to extend a bit more, chicken.

I shell the shrimp and dice the kielbasa (and chicken, if used) at home. If not using the first night, I freeze it all. Takes one kettle.

Always get compliments, and it is very simple.

Thanks to our granddaughters we've recently rediscovered our pie irons. Hadn't used them in years. Our favorite is pizza, but one can cook almost anything in them. Fun for kids (with appropriate supervision) and adults. Easy, tasty, easy cleanup.

One that I've perfected over the past few outings...

Take a ear of corn on the cob, and then peel back the husk (but don't remove it!). Next remove the silk, smother with melted garlic butter, liberally coat with salt and pepper (I use the salt and pepper grinders), then put the husk back on, wrap it aluminum foil (shiny side in) and cook on the grill. DELICOUS!!

Each ear of corn in my locale is approx 70 cents each.

Tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. They are all easy to make.

Chili, spaghetti, etc. These are nice in the winter as they are a bit more filling and substantial. Chili can be made at home and just heated up at the campsite. You can make your own spaghetti sauce at home beforehand also if you don't like jarred.

Soups - again, can be made at home and heated at the campsite. Nice chunky soups for cold weather camping. Bring some french bread and heat it up to go with the soup.

Grilled cheese sandwiches - they're so simple but a lot of folks don't think of them for camping. Add tomatoes, mushrooms, ham, and so on for a more filling sandwich.

Stick pork loin in crock pot. Little water salt and pepper. Shred and add favorite BBQ sauce. Sometimes we leave off the sauce and make pork tacos.

Our traditional non-traditional camping fare involves boiling a package of premade tortellini, drain and add marinara or alfredo sauce from a jar. Simple, easy, good tasting. Enjoy!

Look thru the isles at your favorite grocery store. There is an endless supply of easy, quick items. However if you have time, try the item at home first as some are better than others.

Sometimes we make lasagna and spaghetti at home and heat it up for camping

pastas are a go to. so is a big old chunk of dead cow over the fire with some foiled potatoes. very simple and easy.
