Hello All,
I have been remiss in writing for some time here as our lives have changed in many, many ways during the last few years. Life is funny that way! During this time I went from a TC to a trailer, then back to a TC (my MOST favorite one ever!!) and now it has been decided that the climb to the bed can no longer work for my other half and last month I sold my most beloved Silverado dually, Calvin, and the Lance 1055 TC after purchasing a new truck and 23' trailer.. We took our first trip throughout the southwest (2,450 miles total) and I must say it was wonderful.... so it is our future and one I am happy go to now. For adventures, since I purchased a 4x4 truck, we can leave the trailer in a park/campground, etc., and take off to explore at will; or even camp in the back or with a tent if we so desire.

This is all to say thank you all here for the many years of advice, friendly banter, personal opinions (wanted or not! ;), magical adventures you have shared with me and for being a great bunch of folks I knew I could always get a straight answer from.

Wish me luck in this new phase of our life. I'm now the proud owner of a 2018 GMC Sierra Denali 4x4 and a new EVO 23' dual slide travel trailer. I'll be changing my signature soon...

All best to you in your continued adventures; and I'll be watching and reading!

Ha! We just bought a new TC for our 2004 F250 so we can go camping again. The 30' MH was great for visiting the older gen but they've all passed away. Now we can get back into the USFS campgrounds again.

Best wishes. If I remember correctly, you did a very nice restoration on an eleven foot S&S using diamond plate.

That was me and we might be buying the whole rig back this year....

That was a great rebuild series you did!

Thanks, it was a 1977 Lance that matched my 1977 F250 Ranger...Stainless steel, though not diamond plate.. Loved that old rig! Camper ended up at Burning man and Burt, the truck ended up in New Zealand!

Dak

Sharp looking setup.
New Zealand? Lucky Truck!

I guess it was mountainkowboy who did the S&S...

Truck campers are the most unforgiving of the many types of RV,s for those of age and disabilities. There comes a time for all TCer's to turn in the turnbuckles for a weight distribution hitch..

A small travel trailer is a good trade off to get back in the boonies and still enjoy the mountains..The vast majority of folks in these parts prefer that to a TC and we live right in the middle of Idaho's mountains.

Good luck on your travels..

Dak, don't despair. Trust me on this one: if carefully handled, a well-equipped trailer can get pretty far back in the boonies. Not as far as a four wheel TC, but your life as an adventurer is not over! You don't have to stay in luxury RV parks, or even campgrounds, all the time.

Plus with the increased storage capacities of a trailer (all three tanks and the cargo space), you can park the trailer way out in the middle of nowhere for a whole week at a time, and then use it as a basecamp. And on your day trips with the unencumbered truck, you can get to some really remote trailheads, places that might have been out of reach with a TC (due to low branches and other issues). So there are compensations.

Very nice looking TT and Denali, Dak. Glad to see that you’re still able to enjoy RV travel even though the form is changing. You know what they say, when one door closes another opens for you.

Rock on, buddy. Best of luck to you and your family Don’t forget your TC’ing friends.
