Enough Tow Vehicle?

We are looking at a Montana 3120RL fifth wheel and am curious to thoughts on a new 1 ton diesel SRW standard box for a tow vehicle. 5th wheel specs are:
Weight-11980
CC -4020
Hitch -2400
Length-35'

Before you even think about upgrades you'll want to see how your truck handles the trailer. My Citation is a little heavier than what your considering and I would consider it a waste of money to upgrade anything on my SRW to improve its towing abilities. If I wanted to spend more money on the truck I might go with a spray in box liner and tonneau cover.

Thanks for all the response. Would prefer to stay with a SRW TV for now as it may be a while before full timing and our garage won't handle a DRW. I know suspension upgrades WILL NOT increase towing capacity. That said, what upgrades would you suggest? Looking at installing Hellwig Big Wig sway bar and air bags. Wheels? Tires?

Looks like a good fit. It seems pretty unlikely that you'll use all of that 4000# CCC but only you know that answer. I never understand the whole, "buy the truck to fit GVWR or the trailer" argument. Buy the truck to carry the dry weight of the trailer + what you are going to put in it. Most of us who have been RVing for any length of time have a pretty good idea what we put in a trailer. Just because a trailer can hold a given amount doesn't mean you will put that in it. IMO, no need to buy more truck just because a manufacturer designed in a nice cushion of CCC.

About the most any of the F350 srw can carry in the bed (over the rear axle) before exceeding a tire/wheel or rear spring pack is around 3800 lb payload in the bed (est).
The new gen crew cab 4wd long bed one ton srw trucks are heavy with rear axle weights in the 3400-3500 lb.

A 16k trailer may have around 3200-3400 lb hitch weight.....a 12K dry weight = around 2400 lbs. A 14k figure would be a good guess at a loaded weight.
Of course the truck won't have any issues pulling a 16k trailer. Your going to have a max or close to max loaded truck (rawr) which I personally don't have any issues with operating at at max ....your call.

The truck itself has upwards of 1500 lbs Difference in payload based on the bed length, and if it's a reg cab vs etc vs crew. I have 3800 lbs of payload per door stickers for my regular cab 2500 vs my now sold 3500 dw crew cab that was 4000 lbs. Hmmmm a whopping 200 more lbs with the dually......
I'm also one who wants the grawr to be no more than half of the trailer I am pulling. 16k/2 = 8000+ lbs. Low 7000 lbs is highest grawr for most sw trucks. With this in mind, I'd prefer to use a dw truck.

Our Montana has the same specs and when loaded for camping my pin weight is over 3400 lbs. We do have a washer and dryer in the front closet. Our Ram dually pulls it like a dream and has capacity to spare.

I would feel confident towing that fifth wheel with my srw F350. I have #3766 CC according to sticker. The truck with me weighs #7900, has a GVWR #11500, and a 5th/goose-neck rating of#20,600.

Well Dry 11,980# + 4,020# CC = 16,000#

New SRW Rams have close to 4,000# payload, tough to put 4,020# in a 35โ€™ 5er, only if it was a TH.

I'm going to say no because the dry weight is close to the max capacity of a SRW. It leaves very little for occupants and the real world weight of the fiver.
