Enough with the recalls

Well for 5 weeks in a row now I have gone out to the mailbox and each week had a recall notice on my truck. Security recall, drivers airbag, passenger airbag, steering wheel harness and now steering box plate welds. I was about to make an appointment to take it in but I think I should wait another couple of weeks and see what else comes in. This truck has been perfect since day one plus it drives and tows like a dream so I hope it stays that way and yes its a Ram. But don't puff your chest out if you have something else because I work with a guy that has a new Ford F-350 and he is going through the same thing. I guess none of them can get it right the first time anymore.

Hey guys, Im going to do my best to recoup my strength...may take a while, but I plan on seeing a bunch of my buddies one day while traveling west of the Mississippi. It takes patience, something I need to work on:)..slow going and body being weak and sore at times...just makes me try harder though.

Thanks to all my friends for your sentiments and concern....friends are greatly appreciated at all times, but more so when something like this happens..

Jim

Ok, back on topic...Will wait to see FCA fix for these trucks.

I usually tow around 62 mph so the issue isn`t as noticeable but drive the truck itself over that speed and there it is. I have been pricing out a new set of MS2`s and will probably bite the bullet and do it sometime this winter but I`m not happy about having to shell out the $ this soon after buying such an expensive vehicle. We have been looking at newer Acura MDX`s for my wife and low and behold, they come with Michelins from the factory as did her 2005"

That's what I don't understand,. When empty, I run speed limit, up to 72-75 mph...no vibration, no wobble, AND, though i don't recommend this, and shouldn't have done it, but once, just to see if I would have a vibration issue, I ran the truck up to a 100 mph on the interstate , and NO vibration..I've towed at 70 mph, (16.4K), and zero vibration...Went to that speed, up to 72 mph and maintained just to see if I would have an issue, anI had none...front tires at 80 psi, per placard, rear dually tires at 65 psi each, also per placard.....loaded, and unloaded..I don't rotate the tires....Never have on any dually I've owned...and never any kind of vibration at all:?

..just doesn't make sense...you'd think they'd all act the same to some extent..

I agree that it doesn`t seem to make sense. It seems some are just fine and others like mine are awful. I`m starting to wonder if maybe I have just one bad one that is causing the problem. The dealer has rebalanced them 5 times now; it is much better than it was but is still there. I am running the exact same tire pressures as you. I think I will take it to a good tire shop sometime over the winter and see if they can do something with it. I bought trailer tires a couple of years ago at Discount Tire in Burlington, WA and they were excellent so maybe I`ll make a trip there.

It sure does tarnish an otherwise beautiful truck. The strange thing is I like the look and tread pattern of the Generals, but the vibration is terrible. I`ll keep you posted.

BTW how are you doing now? Have you had a chance to try out the new toyhauler?

As the complexity increases...the more opportunities for failure...

As does the expertise, time and cost to fix them...heck...to even diagnose properly
most times today requires a computer science degree or equivalent

Buyers of newer vehicles (whether brand new or used) are now the test dummies

Even my Trek Madone 6.5 road bike's speedometer has several computers in that
system...that drains the batteries (yes, more than one) quickly

My new Trek Farley 9.8 MTB will NOT get the speedometer that is an option because
of the Madone

Am seeing more and more threads on these highly integrated systems on cars and
our TVs

Mostly IBC and that the non-dealers sending them to the dealers...who seemly
do NOT have enough techs in the know...for now.

Since 'highly integrated'...am worried that there will be too many which will
just shut down, spot on when the computers get confused or a loss of sensor
input

Buddy just turned 66 and they both treated themselves to a Mercedes C class
He won't touch it after one incident and I've told her to take the free classes
after she kept asking me to teach her

After the first class, she said amazing that there are over 100 computers in
there. She is now with 4 days of free classes under her belt and still has
problems (non-techie, so disadvantage from the get go)

Admit to having tough times with some vehicles and this from a guy with careers
in robotics, automation and computing.

Am hoping it won't happen...but...wonder when the first report of some vehicle's
computer software will be 'obsolete' and no longer 'supported'...who still runs XP or older?

Betcha lots...I'm one and for archival use on the internet

Just bite the bullet and throw on a set of MS2's!

So far no recalls on my 15. Maybe 3rd year is a charm.

It's really weird how some of these trucks act with same tires..I too have OEM Generals on my truck and have never had a vibration or wobble issue..I've heard complaints about these tires, but also other popular brands...Guess I've been fortunate.

A "great thing"? How about building them correctly in the first place?

Wasn't that long ago when manufacturers would decide to not do recalls knowing customers will die as a result.

They didn't announce recalls until they were threatened with Federal Government involvement and many dealer and customer lawsuits. After all, what's a few dozen lives to several billion dollars of profits to the manufacturer?

I may come across as cynical, and I am, perhaps due to years of life experiences with business, manufacturing, technology and Government, NONE of whom can I trust to be Competent and Honest at this stage in my life.

I agree with you.... I am a retired auto mechanic... 43 years... the stuff they call READY for production... WOW.
some of you should have worked at a dealership in the 70's and 80's. talk about JUNK... bad design, bad manufacturing, bad assembly. MY OPINION.

I remember in the late 80's I would mow a car lot and would have to start up and move a bunch of trucks (Chevy and Dodges) in order to mow that lot. Every Dodge truck that I would cold start the lifters would tick for a while. There was very poor quality back then but never did I hear of any defective welds on the frames which is very bad IMO. RAM stepped over the line with not having sufficient Quality Control which cost's a lot of $$$ ,but not having proper Quality Control will cost you even more $$$$$$ and lost customers.

Right. And imagine what hackers will eventually do to those automotive self-driving computers on Interstate routes during rush hour! It will eventually happen.

Great plot for a disaster movie.
