There is only 1 "epic" engine ever. It dominated racing for over 50 years and still does to this day at local tracks. Over a 100 million have been made!! Right Zora? :B

You are correct. The small block Chevy V8.

The best engine built to date...

Anyone who raced my 454 Chevelle learned the hard way what epic is all about. :W

My Son took out a 396 SS 4sp Chevelle with his 98 24V RAM Cummins 4wd auto with Edge tuner at the SIR high school drags. The Chevelle did have a higher trap speed.

Big block GM's were awesome!

I bet he burned his transmission up too... :W

What about the GMC 702 V12 that ran many water pumps in fields? It was very powerful, and would run 24/7 on Natural gas pumping water on a farm. It was also used in class 7 / 8 trucks and the V6 351 was a similar design with less heads and shorter block. Same pistons and internal parts.

I think they missed out on a lot of things.

Fred.

Agreed... And the Slant Six wasn't one of them!

Got a 440 in the barracuda.

409 was ruling the streets until the max wedge showed up.

The Ram Rod 350 was a nasty motor.

340 left off the list.

Slant 6, aka leaning tower of power, wasn't a powerhouse or muscle car engine. It is epic in its dependability and durability.

The lists I hate are the fastest muscle car lists that always have corvettes mixed in and the Cobra at the top. Those are not muscle cars. They are sports cars.

The slant six was far from being an epic engine unless you are referring to being an epic problem engine! So many sludged up and burned out bearings etc with very low mileage due to blocked oil flow/distribution/return. Notice that no one's dumb enough to use them anymore? A dead poor design!

Not a great article, missed a lot of epic engines. Hemmings has done similar, much better articles in my view.
