Equalizer Hitch

Forgive me for not knowing the correct terms but the hooks that are located on the tongue of my TT that the equalizer chains hook to are not even. One is positioned about three inches further back then the other. It was like that when I purchased it. My question is do I need to move one to match the other or is the position of both ok to pull.

Thanks everyone, I will hook up my TT this weekend and do some measuring and place the saddle brackets correctly. The season is upon us and I do not want to be grounded by poorly maintained equipment lol.

What does the manual for your hitch say? If you don't have the manual, you can find it online at the manufacturer's website. They probably should be close to equal distance.

To avoid confusion; Equal-i-zer is a brand of hitches but in general they are called weight distribution hitches.

Both frame saddle brackets should be sitting the same distance from the coupler and set so both chains are vertical. Any other setup is incorrect.

They should match , I'm wonder if you have two different bar lengths, usually the bars are the same length

They should be the same distance from the ball if possible. But I doubt that it would be much of a problem, if any, if they are off a little. If it levels up the trailer and tow vehicle then go with it.

But I am open to correction from those with greater knowledge. 🙂

When moving them, consider if anything like LP tank placement would interfere with the pipe motion used to tighten the chains.

They should match each other (equal distance) from the ball. As to which one to move is the question, or perhaps both need to be moved so that the chains are vertical when hooked up.

If I am seeing what you are describing....(posting a picture would really help).

The chains should be vertical when you are loaded for a trip and all hitched up...if not, adjust the snap-up brackets as needed.

If this is your hitch...then the chains on this one look about right.
