Exhaust brake Q

Been thinking about a Pac or other brand brake.

Is installing one moderately easy by say the do it myselfer?

I know it's always better done by someone else.
Was just wanting to keep the cost down.

Maybe I can get the young guy next door to help me.
I'd have to do it outside on the driveway the weather right now is perfect.

I noticed that CW has the turbo mount PacBrake on sale for club members for $670.00 not sure if that's a full kit or not.

$670 is a great price for the Pac if it is the full kit. I paid somewhere around $950, and that was through a TDR member who was a Pac vendor at the time.

You're joking right? I thought the forum motto was, if you want it done right, do it yourself. Having said that. Getting the young guy next door is a good idea.

I installed my PacBrake PRXB myself in my driveway and my mechanic skills are usually limited to the oil change level. The hardest part I thought was removing the front tires to get better access. Plus PacBrake will be more than willing to assist you over the phone if needed.

I got mine at Thoroughbred Diesel great service competitive price. Your 05 has several choices, I also got the ECM bypass the the shifter mounted switch. It is instant on with the ECM bypass, nothing beats coming down a long grade with the rumble of the EB, never touching the brake pedal, while watching those in front of you constantly tapping the brakes!

I'm at 110k miles with over half original brake pads left. Added the exhaust brake around 20k miles.

I installed my Pacbrake. The hardest part was the electrical pin connection. Not a difficult overall job. Not sure who makes the best brake unit. Very happy with the Pacbrake performance. I also added a switch mounted on the stick shift.

More than once I've measured my vehicle service brake temperature after descending a mountain pass. The brakes are normally at ambient air temperature. One time they were ambient plus ten degrees. I ride the exhaust brake a lot when towing.

NOT always!

I had DTT install a PacBrake when doing my transmission. They over tightened (probably used an air impact) the two bolts and caused the butterfly to not release when hot.

Did a lot of trouble shooting with PacBrake and decided they did over tighten the bolts.

PacBrake actually sent me a whole new unit and I installed it. Not a hard job at all.

My story tells of the great customer support PacBrake has!

Installed mine myself, helps to have the right tools. Sawsall with a metal cutting blade, and tail pipe expander of the right size (rented/borrowed from parts store).Pakbrake PRXB turbo mounted, best investment I have made in the TV.

Put a BD brake on my 07. Same install as your 05. Similar brake to a Pacbrake.
I'd say its a 5 out of 10 on a DIY scale. Took more than a 6 pack but it was warm out!
Took me all afternoon and then some but most of the time was mounting up the compressor and running the line into the cab. Not physically difficult just time consuming. Hardest was lining up the brake and getting it tightened up.
If you can do a complete brake job and install a car stereo you can put in a e brake.
