Exhaust brake

I have a 2000 Dodge diesel 5.9. Where is a good place to buy a (used) exhaust brake? I can not afford a new one.
  • Check ebay ... when I was shopping for my PacBrake, there were a number of new units for sale there.
  • "the exact same parts are significantly cheaper through Cummins than Dodge"....

Yeah, like the vacuum pump...$998 at Dodge, $220 from Cummins.

  • Call the nearest Cummins shop to price the kit. I found out after the fact that the exact same parts are significantly cheaper through Cummins than Dodge.
  • I also think the wrecking yard might be worth looking into but usually they know they can get good money for the entire engine. Just the fact that not many 5.9's had EB on them til 2006 or so. Most of em you'll find will have the hand shakers.

I cannot imagine anyone willingly removing an aftermarket exhaust brake and offering it for sale, but I suppose it's possible....you might find one in a wrecking yard....but you could also die of old age first. I'd never take mine off....it's worth every penny it cost.

Passing $1,400 past the accounting department (AKA DW), took a bit, she now understands.
Convinced a co-worker the value, got it past the DW also. She realizes the difference the first time out!! Mine is a PacBrake, the best. Start putting money away now it is well worth the investment.
