Extended warranty or not.

I am spending a 5th night here in a garage parking lot because Portfolio and Wholesale warranties closed for the night. Its not fair to this business owner to leave until he is paid. I put my $777 part of the bill on my charge card but Jeff Shelton the owner and his employees at Wholesale Warranties close up shop promptly and leave people stranded. Hope he sleeps well tonight. WHAT EVER YOU DO DONT DO BUSINESS WITH PORTFOLIO OR WHOLESALE WARRANTIES.

With mine I broke even. The part has to break down, no preventive maintenance accepted. To me that is the wrong approach.

OMG I am into day 4 waiting for Portfolio and Wholesale Warranties to fix our rv. We needed the dash air repaired. I paid $4000 for a warranty. Called Portfolio and was told to take the rv to Down time diesel in Mesa Az. We took it in early Mon. before 8am. They checked it out and submitted a list of parts and labor for approval. Portfolio has a 2 to 24 hour wait time before claim approval. They waited exactly 24 hours to ok the work. This is a ploy to get people to go away. Then parts had to be ordered so the garage started that on day 2. Next when the mechanic took off the evaporator it broke the end of the refrigerant line from the engine to the dash air. Portfolio is refusing to pay for that because the owner of this garage mentioned rust to the claims people. OMG they don't cover rust or rubber. This is not a radiator hose, it is an aluminum freon line. It is not a maintenance part, it is part of the air conditioning system. They have fought me for 2 days. I have just sent Wholesale Warranties detailed close up pictures of the broken line. Still waiting for an answer. You know what? They want to blame the garage owner for not wording his description right. Its not his fault. The blame lies with Wholesale Warranties and Portfolio. We have been treated like dirt. We have camped in a garage parking lot. DO NOT BUY FROM EITHER WHOLESALE WARRANTIES OR PORTFOLIO. They have given us nothing but trouble and ruined our trip. PS if you post about their lack of customer service on their Facebook page they delete it and block you out.

Freddmc you have to replace a transmission because of useage and wear there is no more band adjustment?Did the garage actually replace the whole transmission or replace the worn out items?

I suspect you have life insurance, insurance on you home, car, perhaps even a home warranty program. Only you can decide if it is worthwhile, I decide not; but it is inaccurate to state they are a rip off. Many are offered by reputable companies that provide a fair service.

I agree. I had an extended warranty through a company called Continental. If I would not have used my warranty I would have been refunded all, but 300.00 of the price I paid. I used the warranty several times so I didn't get a refund. Could I have fixed the things myself cheaper ? Yes, but not out on the road. I am not sorry I had it if nothing more than piece of mind.

I have one that I am happy with and has been in business over 10 years. It is Century Warranty Services. I bought the plan thru Costco in October of 2012 when the warranty ran out on my '06 Ford. The plan cost about $2500 for 6 years of coverage. Last fall the truck had an injector problem while on a trip. I took it into a Ford dealer, gave them the plan paperwork and got a rental car. Repairs were $3500 and I paid the $100 deductible and a bit of the rental car cost. Three injectors, the fuel injector control module and the alternator were replaced. I am now $1000 ahead and still have 4 years of coverage.
Normally I wouldn't buy a plan like this but with a Ford 6.0l engine I felt the need to have some insurance. :)

The context of the "apples and oranges" comment I made was aftermarket warranties versus factory. The terms "reputable" and "aftermarket warranty" don't belong in the same sentence.

I researched a ton of them before I bought my Mopar warranty and couldn't find one without people all over the internet screaming about how they'd been screwed by them.

I'm not above saying I'm wrong.... find me a brand of aftermarket warranty that people are happy with and that has been in business for more than 10 years.

My parents both bought new Mercury's in 2000, a Mountaineer and a Cougar. They bought extended warranties (100K mile) for both. The cougar needed a new fuel pump at very low mileage, which was covered under the factory warranty, otherwise it had no issues at all. It's currently at 200K miles. The Mountaineer is at 150K, and needed an IAB valve replaced, which was done under the extended warranty for about 160 bucks total cost. We paid a 50 dollar deductable.

My math says about 3 grand outlay in extended warranty coverage, and recouped about 110 bucks of that.

I picked my truck up $780 bucks later for a transmission module.I dont plan on buying the extended warranty,They did offer me 33,000 trade in on my 2011 4x4 3500 LTZ 8' bed not a blemish on it truck.

Actually you are not buying any warranty . It will be and extended service contract only those parts mentioned in the contract will be covered .And get this if a part not mentioned in the contract causes failure of a covered part you are **** out luck .

As others have mentioned bank the money . And if it still makes you feel better and need to buy one make sure its sold and backed by the manufacture .
