ez pass ny

I have been using throgs neck Bridge towing tt (Tv 13 chevy suburban gvwr 8600 and tt 14 outback 250rs gvwr 7600) and there is two different amount being charged each other times. Few times it charged me $11.33 (5.33 would be tv only plus $3 each axle, i remember seeing this on this forum and i assume it should be like this) and other times most often it charged me $21.04. I called and they will investigate within 10 days.. by the way i have white ezpass for passenger cars.
Does anyone experience this?
Thank you.
  • If I recall correctly, they charge per axle. When you're towing you'll get double hit because of the trailer. I lived in Queens for a year, and that's what happened to me when I'd go through.
  • When I tow my trailer I have to remove my regular EZpass and place a special transponder on the windshield that is set up for the truck and 2 axle travel trailer.
  • Happened to me and they refunded me for the overcharges. Seems that the TT is tall enough where sometimes it trips a height sensor and the toll booth thinks you're a semi truck and charges the commercial toll.

We moved off of LI in 2011 and as far as I know, there is no special transponder....you're either a passenger vehicle or commercial. You should be charged the regular passenger vehicle rate plus 2 extra axles for the trailer.

    Same here.
  • I live in upstate NY and use the NY Thruway occasionally. I have two EZ Pass transponders. One is for passenger vehicles (including my truck when it is not towing anything. The second is for the truck when I tow my TT. As I recall, when I contacted EZ Pass about this they recommended the second transponder because it would result in the correct (lower) charge. I could use the regular transponder, but EZ Pass would calculate the toll differently. Your best bet is to contact EZ Pass directly and get all the facts.

This is correct. I have a white one for the truck only and a blue one when I tow my 5er. I was told it is cheaper in the long run to use the blue one when towing as it is a somewhat discounted rate.
  • But isn't blue one is for commercial use? Since rv isn't. .
So do u charged commercial rate?
  • I called EZ Pass and requested an EZ Pass for towing purposes. It is blue in color and I have not had any issues with over charges.
