f150 specs-what do I need

Hi all,

Been lurking here for a few years. Have never been able to make peace with a 3/4 ton TV since it's needed as a daily driver.

Looking at some f150's for hubby to use daily, but can tow. Will make some concessions on size and weight for TT. Maybe something around 5000lbs? Just looking for a towable bathroom and bed, living space isn't important as we like to spend time outside anyway.

What am I looking for in specs? I've included some specs below for a TV we are looking at. Dealer says about 2360 payload. There are 6 of us but we will be taking 2 vehicles to camp, since the kids are all older and almost out of the house.

Is this lacking anything we need? What all am I looking for for towing? How can I figure out WHAT this could tow?

I bought a 2014 F150 4x4 Ecoboost CC 145" with Max Tow Package and 1828lbs for payload capacity.
I tow a 5000lbs unloaded TT.

I can get 20mpg not towing on the highway, 15-16mpg mixed and 9-11mpg average when towing.

It's perfect for my TT.

One of the most important numbers you left out. The trucks FAWR/RAWR as they carry the load.
However looking at Fleet Ford 2015 F150 weights specs show a 7000 GVWR F150 has a small 3800 rawr..... (rear axle weight rating) carries all the weight in the bed and is good for around 1400-1500 lbs in the bed.

The next step up is the F150 with a 7050 GVWR and 4050 RAWR good for around 1600-1800 lbs payload in the bed.

Another step up is a 7500 GVWR and 4550 RAWR good for approx 2100-2200 lbs in the bed.

At the top of the weight chain is the F150HD with a 7850 GVWR and 4800 RAWR with around 2400-2500 lb payload in the bed.
All weights are a estimate for math examples. A crew cab F150 is hevy and has less payload than a std cab or super cab.
From what I read all the different GVWR/GAWR packages can be had with a max tow package. Maybe some Ford folks have the skinny just what the F150 max tow includes.

The typically equipt f 150 compared to the 250, 350 is just crazy to me. I have looked at many nicely equipt 250 and 350 trucks for 46K-50k, that have real payloads and room, compared to a whole row of 150s of 55K and up. It's crazy.

Also most 1/2 ton pickups come with P tires. Make sure you get E (or higher) rated tires for towing.

What’s the payload? Not including this information concerns me...about you. TV payload is where you start...you didn’t.

FWIW, If you KNOW you are going to stay under 5k for a TT, don't over look the Ridgeline.

It dose not sound like you have the TT picked out yet. If not, the best piece of advice is to find the TT you want and then the TW so you can match the TV to what the TT weighs.

Thanks for the advice. At this point, we've been trailer-less for 5 years because I can't find a TV that works as a daily driver. Hubby and I have made peace that we will just tow whatever we are able with a more gas-friendly TV. If it's a pop-up, so be it. We love cooking and hanging out outdoors anyway, so I don't ever see us with a huge TT anyway. Trying to find a happy medium. Gas prices in Cali are just too much to drive a gas-hog.

How much gas can you buy for 2 thousand dollars? The difference between 15 and 17 is a lot of gas. 13? That is likely on a F250 with a 4.30 rear end. Get a 3.42 rear end and mileage goes up. Also remember Fords historically will get worse fuel economy compared to other brands.

Only special ordered. Altho lots of Max Tow stock units are stocked. One would think a Max Tow equipped PU would have Fac. tow mirrors as well but they don't order them that way.?
