f150 specs-what do I need

Hi all,

Been lurking here for a few years. Have never been able to make peace with a 3/4 ton TV since it's needed as a daily driver.

Looking at some f150's for hubby to use daily, but can tow. Will make some concessions on size and weight for TT. Maybe something around 5000lbs? Just looking for a towable bathroom and bed, living space isn't important as we like to spend time outside anyway.

What am I looking for in specs? I've included some specs below for a TV we are looking at. Dealer says about 2360 payload. There are 6 of us but we will be taking 2 vehicles to camp, since the kids are all older and almost out of the house.

Is this lacking anything we need? What all am I looking for for towing? How can I figure out WHAT this could tow?

    That specific f150 won’t have 2,360 pounds of payload but will probably be around 1,700. A little more if xlt and no sunroof, a little less if lariat with sunroof. That is a great truck and would easily handle up to a 7,000 pound loaded trailer without running into payload problems unless there is five heavy people in the cab and the bed is loaded with stuff.

    It is an xlt but does have a sunroof. I guess I need to figure out payloads for myself since I ran into problems with this last time of dealers not knowing! How do I figure it out for myself?

    F150 Ecoboosts are really popular right now. BUT, once you start looking at prices, you can probably buy a really nicely equipped F250 for the same dollars. For less dollars you can likely buy a nicely equipped 2500 GM,Chevolet, or Ram. The trade off is usually a more robust towing platform with much better resale value.

    Thanks! I just can't justify 13 mpg as a daily driver though (???)

    Max tow pkg is a good start. Combined with the MAX payload (7500 # GVWR) and fac. tow mirrors you have the golden unicorn of F 150s. I have never seen such a beast as a stock unit on a dealers lot. Only special ordered. Altho lots of Max Tow stock units are stocked. One would think a Max Tow equipped PU would have Fac. tow mirrors as well but they don't order them that way.?

    FWIW, If you KNOW you are going to stay under 5k for a TT, don't over look the Ridgeline.

    It dose not sound like you have the TT picked out yet. If not, the best piece of advice is to find the TT you want and then the TV so you can match the TV to what the TT weighs.

    How much gas can you buy for 2 thousand dollars? The difference between 15 and 17 is a lot of gas. 13? That is likely on a F250 with a 4.30 rear end. Get a 3.42 rear end and mileage goes up. Also remember Fords historically will get worse fuel economy compared to other brands.

    The only way to find out what the payload is to look at the vehicle in person and find the Tire and Loading sticker located on the B pillar of the drivers door.

    All vehicles will have a different payload based on how that particular one is equipped.

    Thanks for the advice. At this point, we've been trailer-less for 5 years because I can't find a TV that works as a daily driver. Hubby and I have made peace that we will just tow whatever we are able with a more gas-friendly TV. If it's a pop-up, so be it. We love cooking and hanging out outdoors anyway, so I don't ever see us with a huge TT anyway. Trying to find a happy medium. Gas prices in Cali are just too much to drive a gas-hog.
