We currently own a travel trailer but are looking to upgrade. We just need more space. My husband is 6' 4" and we have three boys. They are 13, 10, and 7. Our oldest of nearing 6 ft. We were planning on a trailer with the four bunks in the back so the boys have their own area, but now I am not sure my oldest will fit in the bunk much longer. Any suggestions?

You're probably right....6' is a pinch in one of the standard bunks. Have you considered one of the areas with a sofa or jackknife sofa with a bunk above. Seems like I've seen some that have 2 regular bunks on the opposite side. While it's not ideal, you might even check out something with a sofa with an air mattress in the living area. Our DS#1 is 6'4 and he's fine on it, albeit a bit crosswise. Too bad the manufacturers don't often consider that 6'+ is a very common size and make some allowances. Good luck and happy shopping.

Sounds like it's time to head to a RV show with the family and do a "live in".

With teenage boys, you might be better off getting a toy hauler and just laying out their sleeping bags on nice camping pads. :)

We have a front bunk fifth wheel that has a sofa across the front with a bunk above and then two bunks to the left. With the sofa AND the bottom bunk, you have a total width of the RV to spread out.Here is a link to the floorplan.My 6'3" nephew slept there last year and said he had plenty of room to move around. My DDs sleep on the top bunks when we have company.

Sounds like the only way to know for sure is to stop in at a dealer or an RV show and try out some of the bunks or other sleeping situations. I would think some have some long bunks or maybe he will have to sleep on the sofa bed. Good luck in your search.

Measure the bunks. Many we saw are shorter. We have a Sprinter 3ll BHS and the bunks are good size. My boys are 14,12, & 10 and all growing and all seem to fit (my 12 year old is about 5'8 and has room in his bunk). Take them to the RV shows and have them lay down, get a real world feeling.

My twin 5'16" Sons slept on the sofa bed. Gave them the room they needed. Daughters that are under 5.6" at the time, slept on the dinette.

We had a Fleetwood 24c, not sure if that floorplan is still available. There was a 27 and 29' Front kitchen model I would recomend over the one we had.......but it worked for 12 yrs and some 100K miles of pulling, along with many many many more weekends used as a ski hut in the mountains in winter, than we did the other 8 months of the year.

We went to a couple camper shows this weekend. We did find some that has bunks that will work, thank goodness. Now just to narrow down manufacturers so I can start searching for deals or even a last year's model they want to get rid of. Any suggestions? brands to stay away from?

We are a family of five and the kid's slept in tents mostly. They enjoyed it, we enjoyed it, everyone was happy.

WOW you grow some tall boys. Word of caution, check the weight rating for all bunks. You will find some only support 125# or 150# which a mature teenager will exceed.

Our Arctic Fox 31D floorplan would work for you. The separate rear area has a jackknife bed, fold-down above it and a bunk over the entertainment center opposite the said jackknife and fold-down.

MY new camper is a Jayco 29QBS. The front bedroom has a true queen bed, 80" long (I'm 6-04 too).

Triple bunks in a separate room are 76" long. If I remember correctly, that is longer than a lot of bunks usually are.

We have the Premier 31bhpr which is nice. In the bunk room there are 2 bunks which are nice but not for some almost 6 feet but it also has 2 twin mattresses that open up on the floor which is what my son likes to sleep on. When not in use the 2 fold up to be a couch. Works out great.

You could check these out......Jayco White Hawk 33BHBS or 32DSBH.
The 33 had double bed bunks that were 54 x 74. The 32 had bunks and a futon that were different widths and 74 inches long. Also they had interior height of 81", which is pretty high. I am sure you will find something.
