Sounds odd, lid closing. Unaware of any F/F that had a fixed non adjustable thermo. Those that did have thermo were adjustable, visible on face, and to my knowledge it turned on/off motor, (thouhg may also open lid-not sure of operation)

Wonder if lack of remote part of issue. (Don't recall any f/f with a remotely mounted manual switch, only remote controllers. pdxrv shows various controllers offered.
