Finally found THE ONE!

After much searching, and more than a little learning about the limitations of our towing vehicle, we've arrived at the hybrid TT we want. We looked at the Roos today, and picked one that was "ok," then traveled an hour down the road to the nearest Jayco dealer, and there it was... the Jay Feather X23B. Hits all the checkboxes, and no real negatives that we could spot (except that the one on the lot has cloth upholstery rather than "leatherette." They even approved us for financing! (LOL) Now here's where the last minute panic sets in....

I, being the research addict that I am, went online and got a quote from RVDirect.com that is around $2500 less than this one (and I can custom order the features I want). So, here are the questions:

First, who's got x23B's and how do they like them?

1- RVDirect... yea, or nay? (If yea, do they do the walk-through with you when you pick it up?)
2- The seven year warranty extension... yea or nay?

There's probably several more questions I don't know enough yet to ask, so feel free to drop an advice bomb on me! LOL

Thanks

Go back to your local dealer with RVdirect bid in hand. Meet in the middle. There is much to be said for buying local. You will have warranty issues.

There is no competition here, so when we mentioned the RV Direct price they just said 'this is our price, take it or leave it and if you buy from them don't expect to bring it to us for repairs.'
We did buy from RV Direct and it went very smoothly. Had a bunk end seal issue and had a local independent shop work with Jayco to fix it. With a large complex unit (Our 40' 5th wheel) we bought factory direct but through a local dealership. Proved wise, as we had issues we needed local service to resolve.
If the Jayco dealer on our hybrid had shown some willingness to compromise we would have bought locally, but his attitude was unacceptable.
Just be aware of the pluses and minuses to each deal and take your best shot. 🙂
BTW our hybrid was the Jayco 23B

Say I found the trailer I want at RVDIRECT for $XXXXX.XX I really would like to order it from you as I like to support local so I want you to give me your best OUT THE DOOR PRICE for the rig I WANT with the options I want. The out the door price is the true price. Some places add all sorts of fees etc to bump up profit so you need to know out the door price.
Remember, if you buy from someone else the hometown dealer does NOT have to service the rig even under warranty

That is what I did and the dealer came down about 40% on their list price.

Be careful of rv direct...I had a terrible experience. They will sell your unit if you don't pick it up quickly.

We have a 2013 23b. For the most part it is a great camper. Thanks to either Jayco or great dealer prep, ours had 0 defects when we took delivery. Ours had an awning recall, but the manufacturer did the repair in my driveway within 3 weeks of the recalls announcement.

We have heard many people complaining about low sewer clearance, but in thirty some camp sites we have never had a problem. The u shaped dinette that many don't like is not a problem for us,it just doesn't bother us.

The one real and major complaint we have is the shower. 2013 had a shower pan,not a tub. We had to resort to an ugly magnet and weight system to keep the curtain in place so we don't soak the whole bathroom.

Carrying capacity is very low so your TV is going to end up loaded while you try to minimize the trailer. We do keep our food, kitchen tools, and bedding in the trailer but camping equipment,(table, lanterns, grill, etc, .are in the truck. We travel with only about 10 gallons of water.

Other than those concerns,we are very happy campers.

RVDirect has the best prices on Jayco, that i could find.
don't know why you'd need another extended warranty, when Jayco comes with a 2 year warranty. most issues are discovered by 2 years.

the only negatives on the 23B, is the u-dinette that you have to climb over to get to the front bunk.
and its low clearance. many complain about it.

its been around for many years, since 1999 i think.

since you only list "united states" as your location, don't know if RVDirect will work for you.
they do usually have a pickup option in other locations, other than New York.

Checking RVTrader I see that they go anywhere from $19.6k and up to "MSRP". Delivery distance is a factor that might add a little, but that should help in the negotiation.
