First Tow with EcoBoost

Several of neighbors have Ecoboost trucks and love them. I wish I had one but they are out of my price range for a few more year. Plus, the truck I have has a few good years in it yet.

The F350 a great truck...I just got sick of dealing with diesel particulate filter. Other than the summer months, I only made short daily trips with it, so the DPF was more work than it was worth to me. I was a little apprehensive at first about making the switch (thinking it would be a serious downgrade in performance), but I am really glad I did.

I've heard of people on here with the diesel particulate filter problem. Maybe it was you?? My brother has a F250 the diesel truck and never has a problem with that. There was a problem with some of them that needed a reflash of the computer. We have recently leaned also that they are really, really, sensitive to using the right type of engine oil. You Must Use a CJ type oil. If you don't it screws everything up and the computer is always trying to clean the particulate filter. Even a single quart of the wrong type of oil will cause big headaches. Our new tractors are all Tier 4 type engines and we have to be really careful with oil for them too.

Did someone maybe put the wrong type of oil in your diesel engine??

Come on, the Ecoboost certainly doesn't have >800lb-ft like the diesels in the 250/2500s. It's an apples and oranges comparison.

But you don't need that for many trailers. I pull 7500# and the truck is loaded to the max (7500#) so totalling about 15,000# GCW. Absolutely no problem pulling. Been all over, the Rockies, the Appalachians. Strong winds in Saskatchewan. The engine does the job.

My limitations right now are more to do with tongue weight, Rear GAWR and Payload. This has nothing to do with what the EcoBoost can pull. It's about the rest of the F150. Getting the F150 HD payload option would raise many of these limits. As would getting a 250/2500.

The only other engine issue is Engine Braking. The Ecoboost doesn't have that much. It's only a 3.5L V6. And the tranny only has 6 gears. So it can get you up that steep hill, but coming down may not be as easy. I, for one, would appreciate another gear between first and second.

Exactly what I was thinking. My 2013 Ram Cummins will pull circles around the Ecoboost. The Ecoboost is a good truck for what it is made for but comparing it to todays torque monsters it is not even close in power.

Well, it depends what you are towing. Is anyone suggesting it would tow 12k as well? Nope. But a lighter trailer, say, my 6000# unit? Yes, pretty close. Kinda like the right hammer will pound a nail just as well as an oversized one.

I've towed the same TT w/ my 2500HD Duramax and my Ecoboost. I have been very impressed with how the EB moved the load along.

Sorry diesel guys...I didn't post this to start a flame war. I was merely stating that I was very impressed with the EB, especially being a former diesel owner.

Didn't the ecoboost have the top spot in the TFL Truck 0-60 boat tow test until just recently? The latest diesels barely beat it, by about a 1/2 second out of 15 seconds total. It's going to take you a long time to make just one circle around it.
