“If you are only pulling 6,000, you best be checking the mirrors all the time !! You would never notice it if fell off!”
That’s no joke! There’s not a whole lot of difference in the way the truck performs with or without this camper. It’s sort of like driving 10 penny nails with a sledge hammer. Our intentions when I bought this truck were to have a new, bigger camper (8,500 lbs. dry) by this time, but things keep getting pushed back. I don’t have any doubt this truck will do just fine with that.
“I'm curious what year/brand/type truck you came out of.”
My old truck was a 2006, 1500 Silverado CCSB, with a 5.3l motor. It was a good truck and did ok with this camper, but it’s not even on the same planet as the Duramax.
“You're smiling, aren't you...got that big, goofy diesel grin on your face, don't you...”
Yes I am and yes I do! I had never even driven a diesel before I bought this one so I had no idea what to expect. I knew it was going to be a better towing experience than with the ½ ton, but I had no idea just how different. Maybe if I had come from a ¾ ton 6.0l the difference wouldn’t have been as big.
One of the things I didn’t mention that was just icing on the cake for this trip is diesel was anywhere from the same price as unleaded regular to 10 cents cheaper. That made that “big, goofy diesel grin” just a little bit bigger.
