First trip with the new TT

Friday I loaded up the trailer and pulled it down to the Rogue River near Grants Pass. It was great to have a spot with no one else on the property! I was able to let the dogs and kids run free with no worries. Here are a couple of pics:

A room with a view:

My son marveling at the wonder of how generators work:

I was able to get out and swing for steelhead, take the family and dogs on a nice long walk and test all of the equipment on the trailer. It was great!

I don't justify owning guns to anyone...
After all I own guns.

I agree! I just prepped the TT for this weekends camping. I am picking the kids up from school, hooking up and heading out!

Thank god for freedom of speech! A very wise attorney, yes they do exist;), once told me: "I personally don't believe every man should have any gun any time they want. But, I will fight for every man's right to keep and bear arms. Because I know the political system and the people involved. If I allow them to take your right to bear arms then freedom of speech will be next. The 2nd Amendment is what gives the 1st Amendment teeth!"

Spey Rod, I believe what most folks are missunderstanding is that they believe that your picture which includes your gun/knife is that it means that you leave them laying around so that the kids could accidentally injure themselves. I believe that you put them on the table in order to include them in the picture and then put them back in your holster/pocket. I believe that you are aware of any possible dangers to your children that may be in that area and that you are mitigating those risks as you see fit. You obviously care about your children in that you are not using the weapon as they do not have the proper hearing protection (unless of course there were a valid reason such as an unwanted mountain lion showing up). The problem with posting pics of this type is that you will definitely get a variety of opinions based upon the assumptions that are made from a split second in time. Thank God we live in a country that we are all free to express our opinions which will most certainly vary based upon the area of the country in which we are raised and what is our own social norm.

There are A LOT of assumptions flying around on this thread.

First and foremost is the assumption that I allow my children unsupervised access to firearms, knives or anything else. I have been a full time dad since the kids were born. If you think they don't get supervision you are wrong. Where from anything posted do you claim the moral high ground and make that assumption? I am actively involved in firearm safety programs and currently working with our city council to further educate firearm owners on safe storage methods. Look in the mirror, perhaps the person you are concerned about is standing in front of you. It certainly should not be me.

This thread IS about the things my entire family enjoys. That includes shooting AR15's, AK47's, full auto, suppressed, handguns, shotguns and living animals. We prefer to eat organic free range wild game. We like to know where our food comes from. We respect our environment and each other. We choose not to cast dark assumptions on others just because of our own personal bias.

You are free to do otherwise, in your own thread… Off to find the ignore button...
I hear you . I posted a picture of my son,and I shooting my AR on my Facebook page, and I though half my friends were going to *#&* their pants. Funny how the media brain washes folks. My Dad took me out in the woods at 14, handed me his 12ga. , and said have fun, just don't shoot in my direction. That was all the safety lessons I received, rest was common sense, but we don't have much of that around anymore.

I find it unsettling that the focus of this thread turned to some people's objectionable opinion of firearms when the gun was a miniscule part of the overall photo. What I see is a beautiful view from a sitting area with the photographers favorite outdoor things. Then another photo of his cherished child participating in an outdoor experience. I think fear of firearms is directly proportional to the amount of left wing television one watches. People, Turn Off the TV and get outside!

If this was directed towards me, let me say I don't have an "objectionable opinion of firearms". I just don't think eight year olds, regardless of how well brought up they are, should be able to easily access them. They are no more suited for this physically, emotionally or mentally than they are to using fireworks, power equipment, sharp knives, etc.
This opinion does not come from watching left wing television. Not everything is political.

I agree with krobbe. The scene is the focus not the firearm. I also carry one and fought my kids to shoot. Lets get life back in focus.

What fun. Looks like a really nice spot. Good to see you have "vermin" protection on the table too. Is that a Sig?

Best comment so far!

When I saw the picture I thought two things:
1. Man, this is going to be interesting.
2. Looks like a Sig, nice choice!

Firearms and New York don't go together in the same sentance either. RE: Safe Act. Don't mean to redirect the thread here. Beautiful place to camp and I am certain your kids will cherish these memories when they are grown and have their own kids. Also, no one elses opinion on how you raise your kids matters one stinkin bit.

Some people do raise their kids to respect rules and things. I just dont get the problem with the handgun thing. A lot of people dont camp on concrete pads and have their blenders and icemakers out on the table with campers on all sides 10ft apart. I have a friend that owns property about 20 mi from the OP and just the other day his trail cam had 4 mountain lions on it just 100ft of where they camp. I dont know about you but the gun on the table is surely quicker to get to than having it locked up in a cabinet and the ammo somewhere else when the big kitty is preying on your children. Just sayin

No matter how well you raise your kids, they'll slip up at times. Ignoring a handgun can require a level of personal discipline they just don't have at eight years old. If they slip up in this area the results can be truly catastrophic and it only takes seconds. Not a chance I'd want to take.

If my camping location put me within 100 feet of mountain lions that might prey on my kid, I'm pretty sure I'd just find a different place to camp.

Not to mention that if a mountain lion attacks a kid the location of the handgun probably won't much matter. Once the parent has the gun he/she somehow has to shoot at and hit the cat w/o harming the child. THEIR child! I don't think that will be too easy do to the emotional aspect. Doesn't matter how good you are with the gun. I doubt it's like the movies. Again, not a chance I'd want to take.

Spey Rod, I really respect people who take their kids away from the boob tube/game boy/smart phone, etc. What you may be missing is the education you are inadvertantly (or however you spell it)giving your children. My parents did the same thing for me. The memories they take away are the true meaning of priceless, IMO. The trips we took and the different cultures I experienced is one of the main things I remember about my parents.
