Fit an 8 foot bed?

Finding used Northstars is like finding a unicorn. We searched for months without success which is why we have a 2019 we bought new. It is almost impossible to lose on a Northstar. One time we were on our way to pick one up and it was sold out from under us when we were a 100 miles away.

As to them being tall, yeh, I find they are tall and top heavy. It almost invariably means the addition of some aftermarket components to improve handling.

On the models we looked at in the past like the one in the picture the boxes detach and when you back under it wraps around the rear fenders of the truck.

Where does your gray water tank dump hose connect, out the back wall or underneath. For the gray, all you need is a regular garden hose to dump so if you can connect one, do nothing at all.

ardvark, "detachable wrap" what is That? It looks like I will have to figure out my dump for the grey.

I felt the deal was too good to pass up. My last was a 34 foot class A, but such a pain. My Toyota I rebuilt was great for what we do, but the chassis was barely ok.

Truck campers are tall!

rear compartments are just screws on, I kept mine in case the next owner had a short bed. The one in the picture looks to me like it is a Laredo or Adventure with a detachable wrap so it is designed to fit a short bed as it sits or a long bed with the boxes ahead of the curve in the back removed. Very easy.

Give Rex at Northstar a call, he will advise you on how to remove the rear compartments.

That camper appears to have a storage or generator compartment, so I don’t think it will slide forward.

There are a few people here running short bed campers on long beds. It’s basically the same distance to the axle from the end of the bed on short bed and long beds. It can be a few inches different. Handling wise, it mostly should be ok.

If it is a great deal, you could always try it for a while and if you don’t like it, trade for a long bed camper.

On a Northstar short bed only model the boxes can be removed and it will slide forward in the bed, but the dump for the gray water tank will be on top of the truck bumper and has to be rerouted. The dump is different on the short bed only models, it empties down rather than straight out the back wall.

Mine is installed flush at the back and only have about 2" space at the front.

Here is the camper installed on his truck. Mine is an 8 foot bed to give you an idea what it would look like set back. I prefer to have it installed flush with the back of the truck. My buddy thinks I will be happier with storage between the bed and camper.

If I try his way, will there be handling issues or/

The storage inback is nice. The storage in front would be nice if you set it back.
But it looks goofy like that. Your choice.

I looked at a Sun lite and the Northstar today. Sun Lite was junk and the Northstar was very nice, I bought the 2008 Northstar.

Apparently the Northstar short bed camper is the same as a long bed camper, but there are boxes mounted on each side at the back of the camper which makes have to be mounted further back. Removing the boxes/compartments should let me install forward in my bed. You can see the left box in the picture I posted. Does this make sense? I’m not against mounting it back for storage. Does anybody have a pic of that? Thanks

That Northstar TC looks to be a shortbed camper and no you don’t need a dually, most Northstar TC’s are designed for SRW trucks.
