The flagpole kits are probably really nice, but I didn't want to spend $100 or more to have one, so I solved the flagpole issue by making my own for less than $25.00.
Go to your favorite big box store and buy a 10' piece of 1-1/4" PVC and a 10' piece of 1" PVC. The 1" pipe will slide inside the 1-1/4" pipe so all you have to do is drill a couple of holes so you can put a bolt through to hold the extended position. I drilled a couple of holes near the top of the 1" pipe and inserted a couple of eye bolts to clip the flag to. I use carabiner clips to secure the flag to the eye bolts.

I forgot to mention that I just use bungie cords to attach the flag pole to my ladder. The bottom of the flag pole just sits on the rear bumper.
