Ford 6.4 or 6.7?

I am looking into buying either a 2010 Ford F-350 Lariat DRW with the 6.4 engine or a 2012 Ford F-350 King Ranch DRW with the 6.7 engine.
Both trucks have about 20,000 miles.
I can get the 2010 for about $38-39,000 & the 2012 for about $46,000. My question is the 6.7 engine that much better? I have heard the gas mileage is much better on the 6.7? Any other concerns that I should consider between the two trucks?
Also the 2012 still has some warranty left! I like that! Any input would be great!!

Without a doubt I would go with the 6.7. I had a 6.4 and traded it for a 2011 6.7.
the difference is unreal. I now have a F350 DRW with the 6.7. I needed a lot more capacity. It's amazing how the 6.7 pulls.

I've had both. Both 4x4 CC duallies. Go with the 6.7. Much better engine and better fuel economy, not to mention more power.

It seems a little high to me also but let's not forget he's looking at a King Ranch dually, which was probably the top of the line model for that year.

That's a pretty loaded up truck.

My brand new 2013 6.7 wasn't much more than $46k. I think it's over-priced.

I have driven for a Ford dealer and own a 6.7 (2011). Not a difficult decision. The 6.7 for many reasons. Better engine, Fuel, 6 speed transmission, and a newer vehicle.

My sister just bought a 2008 F450 6.4L diesel and can't believe the terrible fuel mileage. She came from a 7.3L in her previous F450, it had much better mileage.

We've had both engines. The 2012 King Ranch would be our choice.

2008 F450 Lariat - 6.4L 4.88, 2010 F450 KR - 6.4L 4.30 slightly better mileage. Now a 2014 F450 KR - 6.7L with even better mileage. Plus other noticeable interior and exterior improvements over the 2010 makes us think this is our last Tow vehicle.

I've not owned a 6.4 but I can say that my 6.7 has been great up to date - I've towed around 12000km's with it, the truck has over 40000km's overall now and I've not had a single issue. Highway FE is around 18-21 depending on speed and around 11-12 while towing. Mine has the 3.31 gears and really works well hauling my TT in the hills and barely turns over 1600rpm on flats - stays in 6th most the time.

The 6.4 PS is just lipstick on a pig. Go 6.7.

Check local dealer's special advertised prices on their web sites. I noticed one local dealer here offering $13,000 off sticker on 2015 Superdutys. That puts a new 2015 (not loaded with all the bells and whistles) at just over $50,000.

If you can find a left over 2014 they will probably do even better than that.

Only buy the 6.4 if it is a HEMI, otherwise steer clear of them. Horrible fuel economy and another failed for diesel product. Get the 6.7, apparently ford hit the nail on the head with this engine.

At 46K you are approaching the cost of a new leftover model (2014) that some dealer would like to get out of his inventory!

The 6.4 is way over priced give the problems that come with many of them.

With either one I would buy a service contract from the selling dealership!

Remember many feel the 7.3 was the last good Ford diesel!

"Both trucks were bought and sold back to the original ford dealer where bought new. They both have all service records."

You sure that we were not bought back because of issues. Ask for a Ford Oasis Warranty service report on them.

Note also the Ford tends to blame fuel issues with the 6.7/CP4.2 on the user, while GM with the same injection pump quietly covers CP4.2 problems. I failed pump repair is 10-11K!

Of the two choices listed, I would go with the 6.7.

If it were me, I would likely go with "secret option 3", which if you are staying with a Ford, I'd spend a little more and get something brand new. Used diesel truck prices are insane.
