Ford 6.4 or 6.7?

I am looking into buying either a 2010 Ford F-350 Lariat DRW with the 6.4 engine or a 2012 Ford F-350 King Ranch DRW with the 6.7 engine.
Both trucks have about 20,000 miles.
I can get the 2010 for about $38-39,000 & the 2012 for about $46,000. My question is the 6.7 engine that much better? I have heard the gas mileage is much better on the 6.7? Any other concerns that I should consider between the two trucks?
Also the 2012 still has some warranty left! I like that! Any input would be great!!

I would pass on the 6.4 PSD and go for the 6.7 PSD. I've seen too many 6.4's in the black box.

The prices quoted seem very expensive, however. I suggest you look at the NADA trade value after adjustments and pay no more than that.

The used car prices on 3/4 ton and 1 ton diesels have gone out of sight since the new truck prices have increased so much the last 2 years.

If buyers would stick with a decently equipped XLT 2x4 truck, they might can buy new close to the price of what dealers want for 2 year old premium trimmed models.

I have never owned a 6.4, but I really like my 6.7. Also, if this is a truck you will be keeping for awhile you can probably still get the Ford ESP extended warranty. I would be willing to bet you can purchase that warranty up to at least 7 years/100,000 miles for under $2,000, on-line.

I have owned both, a 2009 6.4 and a 2012 6.7. Never had a problem with either but will say this, it is not the engine BUT the transmission (5R110 in 6.4 and 6R140 in 6.7) that makes a big difference. The 6R140 is much more capable and helps with the MPG along with the new emaission system that uses DEF. I actually preferred the twin turbo setup better in the 6.4 and there were other things that I preferred about the 6.4. The 5% bio diesel is more of a limitation of the emission system rather than the engine.

Go with The 6.7L. It's a much better engine than the 6.4L, and it's better on fuel.

Go with the 6.7 it's good for 20% bio the 6.4 is only rated for 5% bio. I worry every time I drive through the mid-West seems all they have is 20% bio.

I can only state that I have HEARD the 6.4 does not give the best mpg.

The 6.7 is a Ford in-house developed engine. The 6.4, like the preceding Ford diesels was developed by International. That's not a bad thing at all, but I think Ford got so much bad press because of the 6.0 that they decided to develop their own diesel engine - thus the scorpion 6.7 came into being.

I have a 2013 F350 6.7 and it is simply terrific. I never want to get out of the truck. It gets very good mpg and is super strong.

The 6.7 IS that much better. I cannot advise you about the pricing, but there is no question in my mind that I would want the 6.7.

* Ford does have an after-market warranty available for various periods of time. Maybe try and work a deal that includes some extra warranty time.

All things considered equal I'd go with the 6.7.

I have no experience with the 6.4. I do have a 2012 6.7.
I would go with the 6.7. Great power. Reasonable fuel mileage. Only real complaint I have read about the 6.4 is poor fuel mileage.

Both trucks were bought and sold back to the original ford dealer where bought new. They both have all service records.

Without a question get the 2012 Cummins! :B

Really I would go for the 2012 6.7! See if you can get a car fax, and service records. The 6.7 is FAR better than the 6.4.
