Ford F250 Gas with Northern Lite 8-11

There seemed to be some frustration in getting an answer on another thread about how the 2017 F250 gas hauls a camper weighing about 2,600 pounds. I can tell you that we've been hauling our new NL all over the Yellowstone region for the past two months, and the truck handles it very well, plenty of power up the steep grades of the mountains. We don't do a lot of highway driving, but when we have, it was fine. Since the truck only has 3,000 miles, we're still expecting some improvement in gas mileage since it's averaging about 11 with the camper. Our Chevy 2500HD averaged about 12.8. We have airbags, but are also adding the Hellwig Big Wig sway bar since we get some uncomfortable sway when going over uneven payment, such as into our driveway. But we don't get any sway otherwise. Overall, I'm happy with the F250 gas.

Glad you're liking the new Ford. Sounds like a pretty good setup. We were in Cody two years ago. Spent a few days in Yellowstone and the Tetons too. It's beautiful out there. We hope to get back out there next year. Being our truck is 21 years old and has 335k miles we hope to be hauling the Lance on a newer Ford or Chevy truck on our next trip your way.

over 9500 GVW
I now have 3500HD crew cab Duramax well within 11,500 gvw , 15mpg

So far, I am getting about 11 mpg with our NL 8.11 running 3200 lbs wet. I have gotten less pulling my ATV trailer and have gotten a little more but I have less than 3000 miles on the truck so until I hit the 5000 mile mark and haul it in more varied terrain will I have a better indication of what I will get for mileage when hauling the camper.
I don't expect it to go up a lot because most of our camping is here in Wyoming at higher elevations.

Now would less experienced member take this data seriously and plan 2000 miles trip in his gaser, having money for 180 gallons of gas, we would see them on the side of the road at the end.
Would other member read that by driving 40 mph he can save lot of money and use the tactic on the freeways, sooner or later he would get rear ended and possibly killed.
So IMHO such moderating brings real risk to RV community.

Really? I can't think of anybody doing the above and I would never stick that liability on a moderator. My new 5500 has a computer read-out showing that I have averaged 40 mph during my duration of ownership and so far, nobody has rear-ended me or have I seen vehicles in my mirrors go careening off the road.
Not stirring the pot, as common sense naturally rises to the top.

It kills me that every time someone makes the comment that they like their gas engine it turns into a "diesel is soo mush superior" and they don't know why anyone ever bought a truck with a gas engine in it.

Maybe some people just don't like diesels.

And WHY would any ever compare anything in Europe in a thread where someone liking their gas truck here in the US??

And who cares if someone doesn't quote the EXACT price of a gallon of gas?

Sorry for straying off topic.

I think I have it. There is only one possible answer for any question, and that is the one that Kayteg1 figured out. Any data that disagrees with his decision must be false.

I see that you have figured that out too. There's one in every forum. 😉

Averaging over 10 mpg is impressive. The newer gas engines are impressive. Good on you.

I've hit just over 10 a few time with mine. I averaged close 10 mpg a few times and averaged 8.5 on a 3000 mile road trip from Utah to Oregon and down the coast, across to Lake Tahoe and back home.

I'm quite pleased with my gasser.

No need to continue "pot stirring", why not just let it go? There are several subjects that go bad, and usually must be closed. Indications are this thread will be closed if the discussion is over and "pot stirring" is all that is left.

Can you give my other explanation why all the diesel v/s gas topics on all US forums always go into the same direction?
The dispute should never exist, when all it takes is taking paper and pencil to calculate.
You will never see it on European forums.

Over the years I have see and read many things I disagree with. Many I think are dangerous. But I realized long ago I can't save everyone. I have a very diverse work background and I believe I am very knowledgeable, but I am aware I don't know everything. One of the things I know is that sometimes it is best to just let go.

I don't understand how you can say Jim made false accusations in his explaining what he thought. I think pretty much the same thing, you are having problems with moderators because you seem to be focused on hijacking threads ... "trying" to prove how smart you are ... and injecting your political positions.

There are plenty of sites for that, btw. rv.net just doesn't happen to be one of them.

If this is not true, it is what I perceive to be true based on your many posts.

I cannot imagine how you came to the conclusion RV.NET fits in this statement.

We can go way back, but let's analyze this topic.
You allowed "pot stirring" statements as thread starter. You are experienced RVer so no doubt you had to know that.
It wasn't till several questions later that OP explained that the given mpg data is extreme as his driving style is extreme averaging 40 mph.

Jim made false accusations in his explaining, so why don't you say what you think?
