Front tire cover hard

I'm going to be putting a hitch
up front to carry my spare I would
like to know where I could get a
hard cover for it can't find one
Tire size is 285x60x17
Thank you
  • Before you get too far into purchasing an expensive hard cover you might want to try a temporary one ( cardboard or plywood ) to see IF or how much it affects the engine cooling on a hot day under load .

I suspect the tire size is a typo and is actually 285/70/17 . OP needs to confirm .

  • A 285/60R17 is 30.5" in diameter.

Last week I found a site that had dozens of hard tire covers, but for some reason the site wouldn't let me post a link. I kept getting "invalid proxy response."

Search google for "hard shell spare tire cover." The place I found was called Morris 4X4. They average about $300 but it looks like they might offer free shipping on some/all of them.

Maybe you can find something that will work. They do seem to be for narrower tires, though they offer up to 32" diameter covers. Unfortunately, you may have to resign yourself to the fact that what you want is so specific that it simply isn't made.
  • The much more concerning question is what kind of tire are you running? I am aware of no tire that is available in that size that would even be remotely appropriate for a truck with a camper on the back.
  • I have no idea if they are available but would consider cutting a piece of masonite, etc. the size of the tire and cover it with a standard vinyl cover.
