Fumoto valve question

ACZL

I bought one for my '15 after 1st oil change or 2 as the drain plug for the oil is in RR corner on the side of oil pan. NOT a Ford better idea. Anyways, if I recall right, I measured the factory plug, then ordered thru Amazon. So my question is, I'll be due for an oil change after our vacation and would like to replace factory plug w/ a Fumoto valve at that time. How do I go about getting the right size valve ahead of time?

I see they have a "LC-10SX LEVER CLIP FOR SX-SERIES VALVES. The Fumoto lever clip gives you extra security while using Fumoto Valves under normal or unusual conditions. No Tools required! The lever clip can only be installed when the valve is 100% in the closed and locked position." that locks the handle now. That is one of the reasons I would never use one, that and it slows the flow of oil by half. (not worried about someone opening it more if the spring became weak and let the lever open on it's own.)

The spring would have to break completely to allow the lever to leave the detent and open on it's own, since it has to be lifted and turned to allow fluid to flow and I simply don't see that happening. It could happen, but I'd put the likelihood up there with the oil pan spontaneously developing a hole. As far as slowing the flow, I don't see that as a problem.

Just be aware you will get even less oil out of your engine with a Fumoto as it's threads are usually taller than the factory pan's drain nut. Also it's possible for someone to be an A-HOLE and reach under and flip the lever.

I used a grinder and cut slots in the threads before installing the valve and it drains just as well as removing the OEM plug.
Fumoto did at one time offer a hose clamp that fit in the groove of the lever and prevent it from being opened. Works well, but as someone else commented, who is going to crawl around someones' truck to open the valve.

I was going to post that same thing. Use a cut off blade and grind and x pattern about half way down to the base. Remember to de-burr both the inside and outside to remove any burrs that could get into your engine.

THANKS once again for the help gang!!!!

Fish, from my experience, I cannot drain the oil and remove filter at same time as I don't have a huge pan. Biggest problem I had prior to installing the Fumoto, was once factory plug was removed, oil shot quite a ways out (read.....one heckofa mess). If oil pan had plug on bottom or at an angle, would be better.

As you can see in this video once the oil from the sump starts to subside you can start draining your oil filter.

BTW... There's nothing better than a good oil maintenance video.

They still offer a kind of clamp that goes around the lever to prevent it being accidentally opened. Some of their valves actually come with the lock.

You can order one from here.

BTW... Ford move the oil drain plug to the passenger side so you can drain the oil pan and the oil filter at the same time once the oil from the sump starts to taper off.

I did install one on my boats 350, it will make an EASY change next time with running the poly tubing from valve thru drain hole and into oil container.

Not an issue with the 6.7PSD oil pan since the drain plug is mounted at a right angle and the oil pan itself is a little lower at the drain plug location.

Yeah, I'm sure someone checks the underside of cars so they can see if there's a Fumoto valve there, so they can crawl under the car and open it. 🙂 There might be a way to put a padlock on one. 🙂

All the Fumoto valves I have installed are very close to flush with the bottom of the oil pan. I checked so I wouldn't have something sticking way up into the oil. Not a major consideration. I'm not going to be concerned about the fact I might leave less than a pint of oil out of 3 gallons.

I just used their Chart to find the right one for my 6.0 Chevy, ordered on Amazon.

I like the one with the short nipple, attach the hose and drain into my Drain Pan quick and clean.
