Never had that good mileage with my 460 engines. The last two (F250 and F350) were both manual trannies/4.10 gears and I still have the fuel/mileage logs I kept for them. 11-12mpg empty and 8-9 mpg loaded.

I have read the horror stories and the joke, like the 460 will pass everything but a gas station,but the last two I have had/a '93 and a '94/ have been excellent for a big bore 460..Way better than the several 454's I have had..The '93 was in a small Class C motorhome and the '94 is what I have now..

Most of my driving is below 60 mph and hardly ever above 2K on the tachometer, though and I have a 4:10 rear..I guess I have been lucky with the 460's as I am well aware of some others mpg..I got just under 14 mpg going to Hamilton Montana from Idaho empty doing the speed limit...And 11.3 coming back semi loaded with gear..

Congrats on your new truck. I would love a 10 speed in my truck.

A few more gears would be perfect. I can tell you the six my truck has is way better than the three my last truck had.

Specta-that is pretty good mpg. My current ten speed gasser with only 2k miles on it, is within 0.5 mpg of our previous diesel. I expect the new truck will get better with more miles. We are very pleased with the new gas truck. The new ten speeds are a game changer for gassers.

My truck has 215,000 miles on it and I calculate the mileage every tank full.

Its very consistent under various conditions. Loaded, unloaded, town and freeway driving.

The trip data in my car is 1 gallon better than actual every single time I calculate it. My truck doesn't have that info.

My old work truck was a 2007 Chevy 3500 dually regular cab with a 8.1L and 3.73 gears.
11 mpg empty and 4.5 mpg towing the same 15k lbs as the F-450 with 4.88 gears.
The F450 pulls better from a dead stop, "handle" the weight better but they climb the canyons towing at just about the exact same speed.

If I were in the market for a new truck I'd seriously consider an F-350 dually regular cab with that new 7.3L gas.

My truck is pretty well maxed out with my current camper but its certainly not worth the money to upgrade. At least for me it isn't.

Three years ago I went to OR, down the coast and back home over the Sierra's. The camper I had then weighed about 200 lbs more than my current camper and I averaged 8.7 mpg for the entire trip.

I have zero complaints about my current truck. Its the first Chevy I'v owned.

In any case, mpg can vary a lot by simply using different gearing, going slower, easing into brakes/gasoline, etc.

I recorded every gallon of diesel I put into my 2010 Ram. Periodically I calculated mileage and also compared it with the trip data. Fully loaded I got about 12 mpg on the open road and the trip data typically gave me 13 mpg which is an overestimation by about 8%. With mountain driving the overestimation was even bigger.

If you do record miles and gallons used, it can take quite a while to get accurate data. Pumps are different and it is hard to fill us exactly the same each time. I doubt you can get much accuracy trying to calculate based on 88 miles or even twice that for a round trip.

That's pretty impressive fuel mileage.
