Getting a new truck
My wife and I have a 2018 Ram 3500 Tradesman on order and it has been built and will be on its way to my dealer shortly.
It will then be time for an upgrade from our 4500 lb, 23 foot TT to a 30 foot 5er in a year or so. Quite a sizable upgrade from our no slide TT. It’s just the two of us (with occasional grandkids) so we don’t need, or want, anything bigger. I just don’t want to pull around some monster 5er. The trailers’s GVW we’re looking at is less than 10,000 lb. and less than 2000 lb pin weight.
Some specs on the new truck.......
Regular cab. I really want it to fit in the garage. If we bring the grandkids, we’ll take two vehicles.
2WD. Don’t want or need 4WD. Adds weight I don’t need and adds something else to go wrong!
8 foot bed. Since I don’t have four doors it will still fit in the garage. More room for my stuff including the mini bike I want.
5th wheel/gooseneck prep. I think I will be going with an Andersen hitch.
6.4 Hemi. ‘Nuff said. Can’t afford the Cummins.
4.10 rear end. Low end grunt to pull the 5er from a stop and up hills.
The finished spec sheet says 4140 lb payload capacity. I will never have to worry about what I put in the bed again. Well, within reason.
This will be my last truck so I’m not worried about resale value. I bought it to use, not to sell.
We’re getting pumped since it will be here soon. My current truck and its 4.9 is 15 years old with over 170,000 miles on it and has served us well but it is time for her to be replaced.
