Getting to grease zerk

On the hub there is no place (indentation) on the circular cap to stick a screwdriver or anything to pry off. So I thought maybe the whole dome holding the cap pays off. I tried to get the cap off but I was just going to bust it up. Suggestions, thoughts.

Familiarize yourself with the dexter ez lube hubs. lots of opinions on them but they work just fine for most. Lots of YouTube video on them

If the bearings were sealed, they would not have the EZ-lube system.

The EZ-lube is designed to push the old grease out the front, by forcing new grease in from behind the rear bearing.

If the EZ system has no prior use, and the only grease installed, was at the factory by hand packing, it will take many pumps to fill the hubs, before the new grease starts to push to the front.

In any case, to put new grease in, you would have to see some movement of grease at the front bearing, at the gun tip, around the zerk.

Dexter used to have a list of compatible grease. Most any name brand EP-2 grease will be fine.

Thanks all. I just watched the video we did on the walk through. He said just pop the cap off and the zerk will be there. Confusing to me was he said just two to three squirts of grease. He went on to say these are the ezlube bearings, he also said they were sealed. Now I thought the ezlubes where not considered sealed bearings? What am I not getting after watching the vid. Is it a universal grease that goes in these. Mostly I just want to inspect the grease. I did call and confirm I had a zerk after trying to get the cap off.

On mine I use a pocket knife to pry the cover off then remove the little rubber seal and there it is.

Remove shiny disk at end of center cap with very small screw driver or something. Remove and zerk will be looking at you. On mine center cap is stainless steel but the removable disk at end is shinny plastic, even though they look like metal.

Be careful the plastic tabs break easy.

I'd pull the wheel and see if there is a Zerk before I drilled.

I think the flange on the cap is under the wheel rim (the cap mounts by going through the rim from the back side) If so, you'll have to remove the wheel to get to the grease fitting inside of it. If that's the case, you might consider drilling a 5/8" dia hole in it to insert the grease gun hose through.

That is a 'Looking good' cover.

You first have to remove lug nuts/wheel cause that cover is inserted thru the backside of wheel.

THEN you can work on hub.
Is it time for your medication or mine?
